Honestly fuck these loot boxes.

They should implement like a "dust" option where you can transform your mtx dupes into points like in hearthstone. Not saying you will get the full price you payed for your mtx/points but even 50% or 75% of what the mtx cost would be cool. Just to get rid of mtx dupes that people feel like they dont need. Would be a good option.
Still sane exile?

If the reward is random, then yes, it's a gamble.

If the coke bottle is your fixed reward every time you win, it's not a gamble.

Lmao now imagine when GGG comes out and "fixes" lootboxes with your logic xD
Buy our 100 point lootbox! We give you a free 1 point weta pet so it's not gambling!

They can't make them trade-able, since that would open the flood-gates to RMT.(ill buy your 6-link shavronnes for a pair of fire wings nudge nudge wink wink)

They could however allow the duplicates to be turned into GGG gold at 50% of the boxes price i reckon.
Perhaps add a time limit to this functionally, like within 24 hours of purchase.

So two duplicates would refund for another pull at the lever.

I can't speak from experience on this topic, since i only buy a low amount of them and have only gotten the rare mtx's from them as a result. They are incredible value if handled correctly, but i think GGG makes a lot of profit not from people like me that buy in moderation(we probably cost them money) but from the people with a lack of self-control.

Then again, if the system doesn't feel punishing on excess purchases, wouldn't this enforce the purchase of even more boxes which would result in a back-lash long term for people that can't handle their own desires/urges?

No. I've stopped buying boxes in bulk because of this bullshit. I'm taking a gamble at item X that I want because time Y is too long for me to wait.

Curiosity fueled by desire is what drives box sales.

Thing is, though, that it can achieve the exact opposite.

I can gamble whether or not I can manage to get item X that costs, let's say, 80 points within 2 tries or fail to do so. If I manage to win, then I saved myself 20 points. If not, then my expenses will go up more than the amount it would have cost me to purchase the item directly.

That's the idea behind lootboxes. GGG's model follows anti-consumer and max profit model.

Instead of making it fixed item sets with rare bonus items, all rewards are random. Which makes it the shittiest model for a consumer, but the best model for profit.

I'm not sure how GGG's model is anti-consumer. You know what could be inside the box before you buy one and you know it's random. If you don't think that's fun then don't buy them. It's not like GGG makes any false promises about them. You have everything you need to make an informed decision.
Loot boxes are awesome. I bought 1 so far, will buy more when I’m drunk. I don’t mind duplicates, I put em on mules.

This will never happen, chris himself has posted on this topic before:

"
When I survey people about this, they often pick values in the 25-30% range for returning points if you destroy a microtransaction.

The thing is, the EV of mystery boxes is around 3x what you spend on them. So you could buy 1000 points of mystery boxes, keep the microtransactions you want, and then destroy the remaining ones for almost exactly what you spent on them.

Even at 10% returned points, 1/3 of your mystery box value would be returned to you, which is quite a refund to add retroactively
. But even at 10%, people freak out that it's a really low and stingy number.

^Yeah i stated in my post that boxes themselves are extremely good value.

Chris is entirely correct, if they would do a 10% refund i reckon it would just "piss people off" as a result pr wise. So it's better to not touch them as is.

Does anybody know, if you contact support to destroy mtx's will they do this for you? To prevent cluttering of the mtx stash functionality?

this would be the case if we could trade mtx for itens but why no "mtx for mtx" trade system?
sure, people could trade fire wings for firework and get a shavrones for a portalscroll, but isnt this the same like send $ via paypal end getting a shavrones fron a friendly stranger afterwards? i mean, how is the mtx trade a step forward for rmt?
"don't worry GGG, it's ok!"
Misery boxes are supposed to be "make me surprise for cheap" not "collect 3 armour sets from rng because imma impatient man". Misuse leads to disgust.

I know someone who's had Support do this on a few occasions for him.
