What's with the bandwagon hate on shaped maps and sextants?

" Found you a bit annoying at some point but I cannot seem to stop agreeing with you on oh so many subjects. You are absolutely correct. I love to complete things and while I do not have the time to do 40/40 my atlas is one of the few things I can be proud to say I complete and it feels really shit knowing people who do a fraction of it get so much more reward from sextant and shaping. #feelsbadman #gamedesignfalw "Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."

" You and your elitist attitude are a plague to this game. You start this thread and most people disagree with you with solid reasoning and you simply disregard them. What is the point. Enjoy your little sextants as long as they are in there because they will be nerfed: the general population want it and you don't matter. The main reason is simple: It's way better to shape and sextant block one shitty map and mindlessly run it over and over again in terms of loot instead of actually completing your atlas and theoretically the game content. Most of us are not brain dead monkeys who like to do the same thing over and over again and like variation. We should not be loot penalized for that. As a matter a fact we should be rewarded. That should not be the case. Doing that should give NO extra loot advantage and at this point in time it does... A LOT. "Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."

I have literally never seen a system in an RPG where doing content the way it was designed (full atlas completion) was empirically worse than ignoring content even at the very endgame.
It just stupid as I_NO has already eloquently stated. Shaped maps were a good idea but I would not be sad to see that entire concept scrapped. Sextants? Its just a busted system that there is no way GGG expected to be used to the extent it currently is. A nerf is not a question of if, its a question of when. As for atlas completion, I absolutely think with the removal of perandus manor, there should be some hefty bonus for achieving 100% atlas completion. Shit takes work and you should be rewarded not penalized for achieving it. ~Myth |

Sextant blocking is counterintuitive to the entire mapping system. It's not hard to understand why many people dislike it.

" THIS! Should be simple to implement a form of bonus. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

You see people just wanna map not deal with this bullshit that you just described. People want how it was before the whole sextant thing or the whole 70-20 every fucking map. We shouldn't be penalized at the current moment for finishing our atlas.
We shouldn't be punished for not doing the shaped sextant thing there's no choices here sure you can NOT do it as I've said you will be punished 100% more experience apparently according to Alk if you're playing normally and not doing the whole Shaped strat? You're losing more then 100% more experienced probably even more. That's stupid as I've said 9999 times and you see how people agreed with me while ignoring your shit? 1) Nobody likes this system except maybe you and like 3 people. 2) I promise you in most cases GGG is likely to agree with most of the people. 3) So once more staple this to your mentality. YOU SHOULDN'T BE PUNISHED FOR FINISHING YOUR ATLAS Checkmate. Dys an sohm Rohs an kyn Sahl djahs afah Mah morn narr Last edited by Coconutdoggy#1805 on Jan 11, 2018, 4:48:50 AM

People hate on sextants for the same reason they hate on speed builds, trading, Vaal Pact, CI, Biscos etc. It's something available in game for everyone to use to their advantage but they choose not to and think everyone using them has a massive unfair advantage over them and it's ruining the game.
They just want to farm 3 yellow maps per hour with their trash tier hipster build and no one should be allowed to play the game differently and get more xp, currency or loot than them. "You want it to be one way, but it's the other way"

People don't like the shaped/sextanted meta because it creates a huge financial gap between those who simply play and explore the atlas, and those who maximize their profits by running the same shaped and sextant-blocked map over and over again. This system essentially makes you choose between fun and efficiency, and that's not a good choice to have in a video game.
One thing that comes to my mind when I see these speedfarmers running the same shaped and sextanted map a thousand times over is Pindleskin runs in D2. Everybody knew it was efficient, too, but... it just stank so bad :D Fuck master rotas. Fuck any kind of rotas, for that matter. Last edited by DGTLDaemon#6150 on Jan 11, 2018, 5:07:52 AM

" I think you are assuming that only casuals are complaining. 1) VP/CI - People complaining that you could simply ignore all mechanics of every single boss fight by taking VP. If you don't see that as a valid complaint, sorry, can't help you. You'll actually find most people will probably agree CI was way over-nerfed and very few would complain if CI received a buff right now. The problem was CI + VP + ability to get insane ES pool. 2) Bisco's - GGG made a decision a long time ago that quantity was going to be far, far less accessible by removing it from all rare items as a possible affix. To follow that up with this amulet is just counter to their own philosophy. Admittedly, I do think Bisco's is a little exaggerated in terms of benefit but the benefit is absolutely there and its huge. Huge enough that (in the previous league) not using Bisco's was absolutely gimping your build. While their fix of simply making it bloody rare isn't fantastic, bisco's is now far from BiS for a lot of players. If you are going to drop 18EX on bisco's, you better be playing atleast 500-1k maps after that otherwise it's just not worth the cash (imo). 3) Trading - horse has been beaten to death. No point rehashing. Then we come to sextants. It is currently WORSE to play the content as designed than it is to play an obscure, nonintuitive version of the content. There is just no way a game developer is happy that players are better off ignoring his content than doing it. Its just nonsensical. I chose not to shape atlas and went for full completion (yes, I understood how much better shaped/sextant approach is for currency) but I wanted to focus on the elder/shaper mechanic without constantly unlearning maps. Sextant blocking certainly has not ruined my personal game. I made plenty of currency, geared multiple chars up and am at 93 with my build farming red elders. Does that mean sextant blocking isn't a shit mechanic from my pov? hell no. It is stupid and needs to go. I don't want a choice of 'Do content and lose stuff or Don't do content and gain stuff'. I want a choice of 'Do all content exhaustively and gain stuff or Do some content and don't gain as much stuff' ~Myth |
