Let's talk about Abyss Jewels.

The boots themselves can have six mods, and each of the four jewels can come with four more. So, in theory, we could see a 22 mod pair of boots. Wonder how that's going to play out.

I could be wrong but I think these sockets can only be found on particular new uniques.. it is not that you can find a normal/rare pair of boots with an abyss socket.

That checks out. And it doesn't look like it's random. The boots provided as an example have "1 abby socket" as a mod.
I'm hoping there is some limitation (besides rarity) on being able to roll flat phys on attacks with the Abyss jewels. Otherwise Doomfletch's Prism is going to be completely bonkers but good 3-4 prop jewels with flat phys rolls are going to be obscenely expensive since the best builds will probably have crazy damage only scaling life and jewel sockets on the passive tree

^We don't even know if shaper and elder have new belt property's so really the new belt is only superior on paper currently. And not by a lot of margin.(leather belt = you lose some flat dps and utility but gain a minor life boost)

And the jewels are specific so getting a good one will be either really cheap(people incapable to accurately price them) or extremely expensive(so obviously powerful that people overprice them).

I'm not convinced at the moment the belt is a straight up superior upgrade since we lack info.

We still lack a lot of info of course, but based on what we know so far new belts are much better than current ones. Leather bet is 40 life at max, one of the new shown jewels has 32, assuming that 32 is the max (but it could even be higher than that) you are giving away a miserable amount of flat life, 8, in exchange of 3 other mods... it would be a no brainer.

Also... the jewels are not corrupted, so you should be able to reroll them as usual and getting at least 2-3 desiderable mods should be rahter easy.

But again, as you say, we lack info... we are just speculating on what GGG showed so far.

As far as i know, the new jewels only have 3 modifiers on them.

This could be a fluke of course or this could be a balance factor between getting core stats(3) and %based mods(4) to allow interesting competition between regular jewels and abyss jewels.

For example a belly of the beast user(40% maximum life) will benefit greatly from abyss jewels with flat life, while a normal jewels with 7% life will not be as impact-full if his total life% is already high.

If we assume 3 mods is the maximum on abyss jewels, then 8 additional life for 2 other very specific modifiers(one probably being utility oriented, like the % to avoid bleeding) is not that big of a deal.

It's a very minor min-max impact which is nice but not necessary.(so a solid chase item, but not mandatory)

And then we ignore the existence of shaper/elder items which like i mentioned could very well have very niche build enhancing modifiers on belts as-well.

tl,dr elder/shaper abyss socket belt for the win? The chase, it's on.

edit : ah just seen that there is a 4 mods abyss jewel, so the gain is higher but still pretty restricted in builds.

edit2 : The item picture including all the elder/shaper items includes a shaper crystal belt.

So yeah these new abyss belts will have to compete with new shaper/elder modifiers (or you need to find a shaper/elder abyss belt and then craft it up) on belts.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I don't envy newcomers in this league at all, shaped maps, shaped items, elderflower items, weird blotches on atlas, abyss jewels, abyss items with abyssal sockets...
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Without having read the whole thread, I have to voice some concern about these sockets - unless I can use it to slot normal gems I consider it a rather pointed waste of space.

At least with va'al corruptions you can get a white socket. If these new sockets can be utilized similarly I'm okay with them. Otherwise they just remove an available socket for other things.
Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive.
Patch Notes 3.19:
Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment.

Well, if you're easily confused, you're not making it to the endgame anyway; you drop out as soon as you open the skill tree.

I'm thinking we're lately leaning dangerously over the part of bamboozling the easily confused and into straight information overload.

We don't know yet if items can have more than 2 Abyssal sockets.
I'm willing to bet the chest piece allows more than 2 abyss sockets.

I'm also hoping for something more unique than "10% increased damage per equipped abyss jewel" like on the boots.

Maybe the chest has no other mods? All abyss sockets. Blank slate, like a tabula. But with the added property: "Socketed abyss jewels have their modifiers doubled."
Bring back race seasons.
