Let's talk about Abyss Jewels.
Those Abyss Jewels are taking space for virtue gems and may even block linking on an item. So there is a trade-off for using them.

" Mythrabil makes a good point here. Even if all of the available sockets can be linked together in an Abyss item, it turns a 4L into a 3L, 6L into a 5L, etc.(or worse, for items with multiple abyss sockets). For more utilitarian skills that don't require more than 1 or 2 supports, this is fine. Or just throw a bunch of utility skills that don't really need supports together. Still, you make a sacrifice. What I'm eager to see is the unique Abyss chest piece that the Lich bosses drop. I want to know what makes that special. Bring back race seasons. Don't forget the belt base.
IMO, and i've already said it in the announcement thread, the belt base is rather insane, with implicit of "hey, a socket for a jewel with up to 4 mods including stuff like flat phys, flat life, and whatever else". |

" Nah, haven't forgotten the new belt with an abyss jewel implicit. I just think that the new belt will probably drop like candy (outside of SSF) and will be easy to acquire. And clearly there's no comparison of other belt mods to abyss jewel modifiers. There's no sacrifice there. The new belt is better. For the new Abyss unique items, on the other hand, there will be clear sacrifices. So I'm interested in how they are going to interact with abyss jewels, and how they will make their downfall of less links more appealing. We've already seen how the boots do that, granting increased damage for every abyss jewel you have equipped. So. What about the chest? Bring back race seasons.

" We'll see, i have my doubts regarding the droprates, and, therefore, the prices on these. As for the Abyss uniques, if all of them are going to have abyss jewels, on one hand it's going to limit your link potential, on another hand - with the new shaped\elder items, this might not be as big of an issue. Basically, if the chest'll have several abyss sockets, with no possibility of ever making it a 6-link, or even a 5-link, you can still have one with a shaped\elder item. |

Im glad these abyss sockets are limited to specific uniques, hopefully that trend continues.
I dont like golems for example cause its just hey, sacrifice an active skill gem slot for a passive bonus. With the tendency of poe to become a 1 button spammer the last thing you want is a character with 1 active skill in a 6L and then every other gem slot on their gear stacked with passive bonuses that strengthen that skill, cause every inch you move towards that forces that to become the standard for damage and neccesary. the new 6L elder gloves and hats are a nice fight back against a 1 6L spam game, theyre really positive for having multiple equally supported skills. Hopefully abyss jewels dont reach any further than what weve seen and start to weaken that again. What weve seen so far looks great, the belt looks over tuned but hey, whatever, as long as its not so rare than Im gonna get one and I_No will get one and then everyone else can go fuck themselves because rng then fine, it is what it is. Getting the roll on them and then the roll on the gems is enough rng to keep the chase. the league looks awesome right? Cant wait, the entire update is absolutely savage on paper at least. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

The thing that is worrying me the most is the new belt... if it really is a new base where you can craft 6 regular mods + one Abyss jewel... it would be a no brainer, there's no trade off compared to current belts.
Limit it to 4 mods (2 prefixes + 2 affixes) and we can start to talk (but it would probably still be OP) |

^We don't even know if shaper and elder have new belt property's so really the new belt is only superior on paper currently. And not by a lot of margin.(leather belt = you lose some flat dps and utility but gain a minor life boost)
And the jewels are specific so getting a good one will be either really cheap(people incapable to accurately price them) or extremely expensive(so obviously powerful that people overprice them). I'm not convinced at the moment the belt is a straight up superior upgrade since we lack info. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" We still lack a lot of info of course, but based on what we know so far new belts are much better than current ones. Leather bet is 40 life at max, one of the new shown jewels has 32, assuming that 32 is the max (but it could even be higher than that) you are giving away a miserable amount of flat life, 8, in exchange of 3 other mods... it would be a no brainer. Also... the jewels are not corrupted, so you should be able to reroll them as usual and getting at least 2-3 desiderable mods should be rahter easy. So... a pair of boots, or gloves with 4 of these sockets. Let me get this straight.
The boots themselves can have six mods, and each of the four jewels can come with four more. So, in theory, we could see a 22 mod pair of boots. Wonder how that's going to play out. |
