I'd like to nominate this thread for the "Most Entertaining Wednesday Shit-Show" in the Trade-Improvements/White-Knight/Labyrinth-Whining/Anyone-that-likes-the-game-is-obviously-not-entitled-to-express-that-on-the-internet category.

Ill second the nomination

Third! :-)

As for first online game... that's a good laugh. If networking at the time would be considered "online", or as close as you got to it, Nethack was one of the first, at least first widely popular "online" game at the time. I still remember enjoying Ultima Online quite a bit, but never got around to playing Neverwinter Online which had the problem of being tied to one online provider only.

I can't believe that people still get reeled in the old 'WoW was the first MMO' line

There is a fresh batch of players old enough to be here, but too young to remember memes from WoW's glory days. It's a rare enough meme that a lot of that group just never encountered it.

You also get old codgers who take the opportunity to post screenshots from ancient relics like Meridian 59 or Ultima Online. They are my favorite, because I just love seeing that stuff. A few will even talk about MUDs. When UO had its day, I was too young to pay for an MMO. I played crappier things like Graal Online or Ragnarok Online. I just noticed there must have been an era when MMO's all added 'Online' to the name.

Old fart checking in: the first MMORPGs where played in chat rooms in MIRC years before Meridian even began its production!

Ah yes the good old days of text based adventures. And getting disconnected from the internet because your parents had to call someone.

No one can disagree with anything GGG does or complain about anything GGG did without people just disregarding everything you say as nonsensical hate or being a noob, GGG is like their God who is always right even if it's treating them badly. This is frustrating because it's because people like that exist that GGG doesn't fix many problems with the game since people will whiteknight them no matter what.

In fact, I think it s the opposite. Too many people complain about the game without any revelancy. Game too hard I die often etc etc. I am myself pretty unhappy with GGG lately with things like VP still being in the game, the current poor mapping system, that s why I chose to skip playing this league. But I will keep bashing on people who are bad at this game and instead of getting gud, asking GGG to reduce exp penalty to 5% or make the game easier. Like seriously the game is already super fucking easy, the only thing that can kill you are one shots, how much easier it needs to get? Calling someone a white knight just coz someone disagrees with you is pretty immature.

I dunno. Just a casual glance at the forums and I see more black than white knights.
Censored.
Close minded people are always "a problem", be that "white knights" or "excessive complainers". It all boils down to principles - which is bad - and will be the doom for us all in the end.

Path of Exile will remain for years to come, tho, regardless of all the white knights and complainers.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
I think PoE is the saltiest online community I know...saltier than even the Saltybet community. I don't think it's a white knight vs. hater thing specifically. Many on the forums are super opinionated and attached to the way they understand PoE. Whether that's league only players, HC players, standard players, SSF, casuals, racers, lifers, whales, etc...You can't really criticize any aspect of the game without treading on someone's sacred cow, or some part of the game that's integral to how they enjoy it. PoE tries to be many things to many different kinds of players...I'd say it ends up pleasing no one but that's not actually true.

In the end every player wants their corner of the game to get better, and whenever someone asks for change people view it through their specific lens of how they play PoE. And if they think it's going to negatively impact their corner of PoE, the salt starts getting poured.

Really the PoE community has a serious case of the "No True Scotsman" syndrome.
