I just assumed it was sarcasm, because 'EVE is dying' is one of the older memes, from back before memes were called memes. It's similar to the 'WoW is the first MMO' meme, but not intended as bait, but rather used as a prompt dismissal of 'X is dying' claims by comparing a game to EVE. EVE thrives precisely because it does things differently, catering to the spreadsheet star captains of the world. POE seems to thrive for similar reasons, favoring mathematical tyranny over polish and balance.

White Knights usually exposure themselves by commenting things, that are not in topic of thread. Like in this one :).

And I dont think White Knights have much influence on game development. Usually player come to forum to burst frustration or with idea how to make things better in his way of enjoying game and White Knights feel offended :), so they want everybody else feels like that or like them :).

most folks are using steam charts

of course that fails to account for the standalone client but the assumption is that if steam is hitting all time highs the game as a whole probably is

People like Lemabelle should be shot. EQ1 came out in 1999 while WoW come out in 2004 or 2005 (don't remember) in same year as EQ2. Ultima Online or whatever 2D/3D MMORPG is the first MMORPG, but I'd say EQ1 is the father of MMORPG.

There is a fresh batch of players old enough to be here, but too young to remember memes from WoW's glory days. It's a rare enough meme that a lot of that group just never encountered it.

You also get old codgers who take the opportunity to post screenshots from ancient relics like Meridian 59 or Ultima Online. They are my favorite, because I just love seeing that stuff. A few will even talk about MUDs. When UO had its day, I was too young to pay for an MMO. I played crappier things like Graal Online or Ragnarok Online. I just noticed there must have been an era when MMO's all added 'Online' to the name.
