The Illusion of Choice

I have a lvl 57 witch and I know its not end game yet I am not claiming shes viable yet.

However, I will say that I hit a brick wall at lvl 46 where I just could not survive I thought like you that the problem was not enough HP so I dropped all 8 of my respecs and stuck them into hp nodes... this helped NONE!

So I thought HP gear.... This helped NONE!

sitting at 1k hp with almost no armor and only 40 resistance to all elements i asked myself how can i build my melee claw witch so that she can regen more dmg than she takes got an amazing +50res all ring now im sitting in the 70's but phys dmg obliterated me so I stacked evasion/Life.

Why evasion? because I can convert it into armor and gain a ton of phys res if i spec for it.

Evasion is not useless it is not as good as others but useless would be a vast understatement it is a means to an end just like any other node no single one is an end all so in that sense this game is dynamic.

No I wont have 8k dps and clear maps in under 10min but I will have fun and when people see my melee witch they don't laugh and say noob they say wow never seen one of those before whats your build!

The game of life is not a race to the end but an adventure to experience, the same is true in this game. Build w/e you want but make sure you can support it with gear.

And so what that some builds lose 5-10% effectiveness. Like its such a huge deal to lose that little of survival, or dps. I dont need 10k dps to go through the game, I do fine at 9k. I dont HAVE to have 10k life, when I still survive perfectly well at 9k. If you want cookie cutter builds, go elsewhere. D3 and Torchlite make well for cookie cutter builds that trash the game with no trouble. I like testing and tweaking builds until I make them well enough to survive and win. If I wanted to win that easily, I would just go play Avatar: TBE.

Yeah, but somewhat true. GGG has been the first company in a long time to actually make substantial changes for the betterment of the game.

No no...I agree, its in beta, and still deep into development. I understand. Its just....seriously? That was a terrible word play. 'You beta be patient'...If I knew him in real life, I would slap him.

the point of min/maxing is that there will always be a superior "choice" to be made.

As I said earlier, and everyone agree, even GGG, the people who made this game agree, Melee is weak. We all know it, and we all hate it. GGG said in an interview somewhat recently that they would be changing somethings around for Melee to make it more viable for end game.

Now everyone supporting OP playing ranged isnt true...I've seen some posts on here about people who play successful melee builds...witches even.

You didn't read the whole thread then. I gave examples of many melee builds that are not "cookie-cutter" at all but still ended up being a ton of fun to play.
