The Illusion of Choice

Don't agree.
Very much don't agree.
Freezing pulse is absolutely not OP. Its a fine skill to use. Same for firetrap. Its sad i read somewhere that firetrap will be nerfed to. GGG should improve some other skills instead. Someone like Kripp knows how to gear, spec and combine gems like no other. He is able to make any skill OP if he chooses. And after that a bunch of sheeps start to whine on the forums about this and that is OP... Use your brain please
Here's what I don't get...

I know that Freezing Pulse is strong. I actually looked up Kripp's build, and thought about using it, until I learned how expensive some of the things he uses are.

So... he has godly gear, and has figured out some awesome synergies with it. Good for him!

I do just fine with my characters, and I play the way I want to play. Why should I care if someone is killing things a bit faster, or more efficiently? So what.

If they are not multiboxing, or hacking, or botting, then I could care less.

So, there are a few builds in this game that are retardedly strong, a few builds that are very strong, a few that are strong, etc. It happens. The builds don't have to be the exact same in every way. The damage doesn't have to be the same, either.

D2 hammerdin did about 16k. Meteor sorc did about 32k. No one was worried about Meteor nerfs, as everyone was busy swinging hammers.

Same thing.

because kripp invented the freeze pulse build LOL

100% peircing and multiple projectiles stacking onto each other are inherit properties of the skill, which is the reason it is so powerful.

As someone stuck on Piety on Normal in Lunaris with a two handed/life Sweep/Cleave/Leap Slam build? Anyone who says there's plenty of variety has not played anything 'true melee'.

Sounds like you just threw some gems in your gear and called it a 'build'.

I'm stuck with what the game gives me. I've stacked ever life node I could find, but I also, stupidly, decided to go for every two handed damage adder node on the way. And I can tell you, the damage nodes are useless. In fact, I'd have been better served by going pure resistance and health, whether that's bonus or regen.

This means my build is not viable. I have NO CHOICE but to start over and do it all over again, because I thought that investing in 50% offence and defence would be viable. Moment I hit Act 3, it wasn't.

Illusion of Choice.

If you have a good melee build you can kill nearly everything up to Merciless difficulty by holding down heavy strike and appropriately using pots. This is from someone who has played a melee character to 81. I did 1-49 in a day. Leveling as a melee character is easy. If you are having trouble with Piety, get better resists and a better strategy for taking her down.

Its all perspective. I am sure that I could take your character, change a few points and a few pieces of gear and roll past piety as well as all of cruel difficulty with very minimal difficulty. Its not the game's fault that you are inexperienced. While I do feel the game currently favors ranged builds heavily, the failure of your character is not on the game, it is on you.

There is no illusion of choice. There are choices. Some choices are superior to others, however the choice remains in the hands of the player. This is no illusion.

haha.

nerfing some of the clearly op skills (freezing pulse is CLEARLY op) would make some others look more attractive.

I think the ele resist damage recieved should have better scaling too.

yes nerfing FP would indeed make freezing mine, shock nova, cold snap etc look more attractive
