Game of Thrones season 7

I think the major thing I didn't like about season 7 was how fast time passed...They didn't take into consideration that it takes a long time to travel and the creators made it so the Dragons were able to fly from one location to another in a matter on minutes (not too realistic to be honest).

I agree but it's a hard problem to solve. If they had realistic travel times they would have had to fill the time with some happenings which is hard when most story lines are basically concluded.

Books have the luxury of being able to keep time in balance through added chapters and subplots and a gentle weaving of story lines. With TV and movies, time is money and few viewers want to wade through filler that is not dramatic and exciting. The show is hampered by the geographic stage set by the books. It can't make Westros smaller or change the distances involved so it is left with just ignoring travel time so that the show can move from one dramatic section to the next. How many folks would enjoy a full episode of Jaime Lannister riding from Kings landing to Winterfell? How many would insist that 50 pages of it be edited out of a book?

GRRM is likely to spend 1000 pages telling the season 7 story and people will read it once and then again. It is the filler details that make the written story so good.

After epic boat sex we get epic hammer sex in season 8.

No disrespect guys but the first seasons were smalltime in the grand scheme of things. Small mans fantasy, the shit only took flight to higher ascension in later seasons. The newer shit is greater. This is why the old seasons were good, they aspired to the heights we see now such as live grand dragons, the great war etc.

You sound like the star wars fans who can't see any quality in the new movies.

But your loss, as said before your mindset causes you to miss out on some of the best fantasy "movies/tv" that has ever been made and instead see it as garbage. And i am actually extremely elitist with the purity of anything, the purity of essence, as well as i am one of the select few who can tell grand high-degree-of-spiritual-purity works from small mens craft when they think they are big but don't have a clue about the higher alignment of all things. And before you go all "ohh big talk spirit etc, go look up what spirit actually means in the dictionary. So, congratulations - you have successfully made it to "glass half empty", level.

To be fair, I'm not a huge SW fan, and Eps 1-3 were still fucking terrible. I could list out all the reasons I find them so, but that's getting off topic.

I finished S7 about 3 days ago. I practically binge watched all 7 eps. WOW. This season really pulled me in! S6 was pretty good too. I had stopped at the end of 4, because the torrent for 5 was apparently being tracked. I only recently found a copy of 5, 6 and 7 that I could safely download. (I own S1-4 on disc, I just can't afford to by the rest at the moment.) 5 was good, 6 was great, and 7 was spectacular.

I will agree with the poster above me somewhere though, the time jumping was sort of...jarring. I'm sure they could've come up with SOME idea to let us know that a stint of time had passed. Instead it goes from one event, fades to another even that happens a month or more later.

The kicker of who Jon Snow really is was totally unexpected! At least for me anyway. Too crazy. Can't wait for S8!
Khaleesi has short hair next season. Really makes you think.

Good books have no filler -- as long as there's character development, it's not filler. Story, to paraphase a speaker I once heard at a workshop, is what happens when characters react to plot. And I'd argue that the shit 'on the road' in s1 was definitely story, even though it was just stuff like Jon Snow and Tyrion talking books vs swords. That is the stuff that matters with writing. The underlying philosophies found in a quiet conversation that encapsulate why kingdoms go to war and who plays what role. Without that thematic tide flowing under the larger set-pieces, you're just doing Generic Epic. Diablo 3, incidentally, is full of this, which is why it's completely forgettable as a story despite having amazing cinematic sequences. I don't think GoT is there yet, but I do feel it lost the balance between story and plot well before now. I just cared so much less about the characters after the first few seasons.

"Filler details" not just filler: All the cool, tiny bits and pieces that contribute to world and carry the reader from action sequence to action sequence. Almost all of those get lost/dropped from a TV show. We do not disagree.
