And people who do their own Lab runs barely notice the traps anymore. They really, truly aren't that big a flaming hairy deal after you do the Labyrinth enough to get a proper feel for it. Even in the Uberlab. Get some proper Labyrinth movement skills (i.e. Leap Slam/Lightning Warp, NOT Shield Charge or Whirling Blades), or grab a bit of gear with life regen. Take it slow and cautious, and just practice.
If your Internet connection is consistently too inconsistent to deal with traps, which is what everybody always says when they say they can't stand Lab traps (funny how their connection's perfectly fine when they're Vaal Cheeseclearing Strands, innit?), then yes - look into builds that don't need an Ascendancy. A better idea, though, would be looking into ways to not have such a piss-poor connection. She/Her

Just died in that vomit inducing piece of content again due to a trap after killing izaro stage 3, with a character who runs t 15 - t 16 maps. I really wish it becomes optional; I mean damn, uber lab already offers tons of incentives, expensive enchants, loot, why does ggg force this crap down everyone's throats?? And having to do this bs for every single character you create is just an icing on the cake.
I have several characters, did uber with most, and have at least one with whom I can pretty much faceroll uber itzaro and the lab with whatever layout and get all keys. I still hate it, and don't farm it even though I could get a decent return from it. It is longer than any map, has mechanics that are there to slow you down on purpose (traps), and yet provides only one try. Gets even more fun when you take connection issues into consideration. This is absurd. The funniest part is that you can actually do it in under 3 minutes, by stacking loads of movement speed, at which traps just stop dealing damage to you altogether, and then oneshoting izaro with mines detonated by a totem to avoid his invulnerability phase. So challenging, so balanced. And I would probably even make such a character, if only I could do the uber lab for all my other characters with him. But you can't, because apparently every single one of your characters should be able to run this rather specific content, whose mechanics practically do not appear anywhere else in the game... |

" ^this ... the labs gave me grief for a bit (mostly the traps) but then I discovered... movement speed matters... THEN I discovered... you only need a modicum of DPS, but a fair bit of defense to go with your movement speed, and suddenly, the lab was fun. I am quite frequently not so miserable as it would be wise to be - T.H. White

" I played games for the last 20+ years HC solo SF. Every game. Even Minecraft. It's my chosen playstyle. I played four characters up to Merci lab only to have them trounced by Izzy. No way I could learn the fight. It was over before I could even figure out what was going on. Way out of tune. Takes about a week for me to get a character to that level. Having it trashed without any chance to learn from it was maddening. So I had to quit playing HC. That was huge for me. I regret it to this day... I should have simply quit playing all together. I went back to try HC again with Legacy and was fucked by bad habits developed because of the lab. It ruined HC for me. I hate it. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Jun 8, 2017, 6:54:05 PM

@Mechanoki:
A'ight. So when do I get my free Atziri/Shaper drops, if the Labyrinth rewards are given for free to anyone who doesn't feel like the Labyrinth is fun to run? I hate Atziri and her bogus bullshit zone and bogus bullshit sub-bosses and bogus bullshit inability to practice the encounters at all without spending a Fragment set and praying to God you luck through it enough to learn something...which means that if I want Atziri stuff I get to pay for it. I've got no issue with the Labyrinth and enjoy playing it. It's nice to have different stuff in the game, so people who don't like Atziri farming or Vaal Cheeseclearing four thousand Strands a day or rushing the Shaper four hours after a league starts so they can have the first Shaper kill of the league. Hell, I despise the very concept of racing and consider it a colossal waste of time, effort, and energy, and I'm still glad other folks like it and that they've found a company willing to put this time-intensive, low-interest thing out there. Nobody else would, but GGG does so the racers come here. I'm just trying to figure out why people have this weird assumption that Lab runners should have to sweat and clench to get their Ascendancies but that anyone else who doesn't like the Lab should just, like...get two Asc. points at level 40, two more at 55, two more at 63, and the last two at 70. Why do you deserve your Ascendancy for free when the rest of us have made our peace with running the Labyrinth to do it? Where's our free stuff from content we hate/don't do? @Shagsbeard: Tough break, and my condolences. That said...there's videos out there showing the fight, opportunities to practice the mechanics in Normal/Cruel Labyrinth runs, and SSFHC is generally held, even by GGG, to be for complete masochists who enjoy the pain. Balancing decisions can't be made around SSFHC players, man. She/Her Last edited by 1453R#7804 on Jun 8, 2017, 7:03:29 PM

Lab is still complete and utter shit - a crossy-road blade car mechanic that has no place in an ARPG HC game or hiding character progression.
The only people I see defend it primarily are SC players. In SC who gives a shit if your frogger dies to a network hiccup spikey-car. Most people don't enjoy it, they just deal with and get it over with. I'm the Ps guy: Psomm, Pso, Psong, pso-on and pso-phorth.

" Doing shaper, atziri and uber atziri, guardians and high level maps is actually optional since ALL of their drops can be purchased from other players. I currently sell shaper fragments because I don't want to gamble with how the run goes and prefer to accumulate wealth over time and buy exactly what I want later. Are there alternatives to lab in terms of ascendancies? Can you buy the points from other players? No, yet the game is balanced around you having access to all ascendancies, just like it is balanced around player having access to all side quest passive points and bandit rewards. Would it be fun if GGG gated those as well behind some ridiculous annoying content, that is unlike anything else in the game? " Asc. points is not the ONLY reward lab provides. Uber lab also provides access to expensive enchants (sometimes VERY expensive), and potential good income from the chests. In fact, a lot of actual lab runners make a very decent income from running lab. So they like the content, and they also get a substantial reward for doing it, which is totally cool. Isn't this enough?? Why should everyone, with every single one of their characters, have to do this?? Last edited by MECHanokl#1095 on Jun 9, 2017, 7:26:03 AM

" Yes, actually. It would mean traps and gauntlets are no longer limited to the Labyrinth and instead an integral part of the game, thus not something "unlike anything else in the game". "Into the Labyrinth!
left step, right step, step step, left left. Into the Labyrinth!" |
