Melee survives just fine. You can get 100% all res and 95% phys res making you invulnerable just about. You can also get 75% block spell block. But it's totally noncompetitive for clear speed. Even worse that it is to begin with due to gear and passives investing almost 100% in D
sure if we are talking about juggernaut but that is just one class though. and block means low dps and times you dont block you can still lick one shot.
And on flip side you still level slower than long-ranged dps.

Not true. Every class has resources to near invulnerable. They just dont make that choice because its way faster clears to play even a 3L AOE/Ranged/projectile build.

It's my understanding that the last 2 years have been spent casuallizing the game.
Casuals are cancer to engaging, interactive games. Because they often whine and moan that they didn't get to farm all content in the game by playing 20 minutes a day for 2 weeks.
This in of itself isn't a problem, until casuals make up the majority of playerbases, so developers want to appease them so they can get more money. Until those casuals leave for the next shiny new thing that gets their attention and wallet for 5 minutes.
But doing that also just kills off your actual FAN base.
Then you're left with nothing. All because you got greedy and tried to milk the short term crowd.
A good example of this is Blizzard.
Back in the day, they made amazing games. They were one of the best companies and were the kings of the MMO (To the point where a WoW clone was made seemingly every 5 minutes)
However, when Activision got involved, they started to cater to the casual crowd. So much so that some of their recent WoW content has been full RRP for an expansion, and an £8 or $10 subscription fee for a glorified facebook game. Or whatever that horseshit they call a Diablo game is these days.
I mean, you can literally track what's happening with their WoW subscription numbers. Back when they made a good game, that was focused on their core fans but was also fun for the casuals (Even if they didn't see all the end-game content, there was enough for them to do to keep them happy). Then they hit their peak with WotLK (In part because it co-coincided with China getting TBC) which is when they started implementing casual focused content.
Then with every expansion after that, casuals left because well, they get bored. Fans left because the game was too casual. With note that each expansion started with a significant spike of players, which was all the fans coming to see if the game was good again, then a month later, they all leave when they realize it's still a casual snorefest.
It's culminated in them not actually publishing their player numbers anymore because they're so terrible since they've lost like 90% of their core playerbase and casuals are off playing the newest fad instead of paying through the nose for a facebook game.

I think they could make everyone happy though with otpions.
Difficulty options.
Loot table options.
etc
If these casuals want to play no death penalty, a 6L Shavs drops guaranteed from shavroone in act4, <1 min strand face rolling, mobs have to hit you 10x to kill you - let them!
If I want long haul engaging fights, where monsters will rape you if not close to perfect in gear and play, and only 1% can make it 15 maps. Let me do that.
And everything in between. Dont understand why they dont.

I dont have problem appealing to casuals, and game already does, appeal to casuals you can easily be viable in tier 8s to 11s and you can reach level 100 if you keep running those maps carefully in standard.
So I dont see problem with that, but on other side although game does appeal to hardcore fans I would say their philosophy of making average joe builds having to spend year or two to catch up to meta builds in terms of gears and investment they have to make to do so and that game revolve around challenge league is quite weird to me.
I mean who cares about shaper kills and guardian kills if its cheaper to just pay people to do it, because such maps cost more than actual kill service.
I think the problem of game is economy is shit unless you play hardcore and for casuals and non-basement dwellers its very unfriendly.
I used to be kind of like no lifer few years ago but after I got married and got job, it does feel bit of nightmare in that regard.

No you just like that play style better. I think there should no such thing as face roll even with perfect gear let alone state game is in now. Thats why they should have some options and make everyone happy.

All chr development games will eventually cause players to reach a point of diminishing returns. Nerf or no nerf, neither option will overcome that reality. The RL sacrifice in quality of life and standard of living is already insane for those determined to hit level 100 and that won't change however the dust settles in 3.0.
Some people choose to end their life by committing suicide. Video game addiction is not much different because the individual is spending too little time actually living. They don't even realize how much it's affecting their relationships and career opportunities, and if they do, they lie to themselves by claiming the alternatives to gaming 24/7 aren't better.
Even when they get tired / bored of a game, their immediate thought isn't about taking care of much needed responsibilities, it's "What other game should I play next?"
Whether a developer focuses on retaining the loyal, hardcore gaming addicts or casuals, it won't matter. Both groups will move on. How they move on whether to another game or more noble pursuits is irrelevant in the big picture. GGG will have to eventually make a new game if they care to survive long term.

Gaming is a waste of time but isnt all entertainment a waste of time? Concerts to movies? I just want to be entertained while wasting my time which this game fails to do with it's arcade shooter gameplay as of late. (basically since our DPS is at least a order of magnitude higher since 1.4 or so and monsters dont even try to kill you until Big 6)
