two main issues:

when a skill like cleave can hit 10 mobs at most while my current fav FrostBolt clears 3 SCREENS with one cast - there are more than one game in POE

problem: these both games are in fact one game and if one want to 'save up for XYZ dream' (or any other expensive item) one competes with players playing the smarter of these two games

im stubborn and i WILL get this piece of turd Cleave Jugg to 90. but most likely i will not play melee ever again. it just does not make sense to handicap oneself that much. it took me around the same to take my FrostBolter 1 -> 88 than my Jugg from 85 -> 89. the clear speed, safety, mod selection, bosses i can tackle etc etc. this stuff just cannot be compared with straigh face


and a less whiny one.

'some solution vs spells'. for right left side of the tree players there are only two available solutions: vaal pact or spell block (third one is 200k dps and killing everything on hit)

this isnt diversity. this is a joke. why? because ele spells just form majority of threat sources in this game. it wasnt the case back in the beta.

beyond: most bosses are spells only (had a pleasure of fighting abaxoth with onslaught and berserk as a melee. NEVER. F... AGAIN!). all this painstakingly stacked AR and EV and End Charges are USELESS vs most bosses. these bosses were deliberatelly designed to sh.. on these basic mechanics

essences: i cannot name a single 'attack' one.

breaches: 3 elemental (pretty much everything is a spell or a degen), 1 chaos (lol CI.. just lol), and one - phys. phys degens.

shaper: (ignoring the initial bosses) - except for that autoattack he deals AR and EV is pointless. it matters vs adds a little but you should kill them on sight anyway. so the end-game tells us in plain words 'ignore AR and EV because these are irrelevant'

list of this 'spells and mostly elemental spells are what end-game is made of' goes on and on and on.


this shift from 'attacks/physical' (the only recent phys attack boss is Izaro. are there any other ones? Shaped Strand duo doesnt count - they deal no damage whatsoever) - to 'spells elemental' is what ultimatelly moved melee into crap category

why? because melee has to absorb this damage (no, spectral throw nor lacerate are not melee). spellcasters just outrange/offscreen this crap and move on collecting loot. melee has no choice.


that build of yours would fare just as good with 0 AR, 0 EV (but with jade/granite when needed) and that block/spell block of yours. that keeps you alive. AR/EV.. in most dangerous situations is 100% irrelevant

and GGG fault is that they made it so. that plus instant leech

at the risk of exposing the complete narcissist I am, I am wondering why people continue to imply melee can't survive T13+ maps when i clearly stated i have video proof of my melee build using 1c uniques facetanking 2 elemental damage mod T15 ............... like someone mentioned "builds that can't auto farm T15s are fine" (which i personally agree with) is indicative of melee sucking, well, I would put T15s on auto farm if I weren't a fucking scrooge who also happens to have no motivation to generate profit in POE (i.e. if I could financially sustain T15s I would chain them on my melee 1c uniques build all day every day)

i guess i shouldn't bother tho because the goalpost will always be moved up

Doing it a couple of times without dying is not what's considered viable.


I suppose you did that with your highest character (notice again what I said earlier), a lvl 92 Gladiator.
Looking at the nodes, gear, etc. of your Gladiator, that is absolutely not viable for high maps/levels. By any means.


I know why you are wondering why people imply that melee is fucked in high maps. My advice would be that you should actually go there and see for yourself how far can you get with those deaths.


A yet another classic on our hands it seems.
