Truth be told major exploits affect the economy, preventing other people from selling stuff or buying stuff at reasonable rate. This is something that other people do and can affect you.

Problem is that it didn't happen. If not for Reddit people would never notice anything... since economy wasn't affected, lol.

In the sense that I play mostly SSF I agree with you. However, the economy itself is balanced by drop rates. And drop rates are determined by GGG. GGG could very well lower the drop rates of things they find too common, and probably do without our knowledge. You have to consider that you're not playing a single player game where drop rates are geared to an individual, but rather toward the many.
