The Brittle Emperor (a.k.a. "why the fuck would you give a boss Life Regeneration?")

It's regen comes from Consecrated Ground, so it's 4% life regen'.

I had a lot of struggle against this boss, and if you don't have the DPS to kill him inside Consecrated Ground, then try to kite him out of his zone from times to times, and you should be able to kill him at last.

for starters I had to switch from my Melee to Caster Witch because he was getting 1-shot with 76% Fire Res (Life Build OP), then switch again to Ranger who has the highest single-target DPS of all my chars (Frenzy).

Voll had 40% ele res from the map mod, vs. the Caster (Arc) - so around 15% with the curse applied?

fuck regen.

Make sure you are using penetration gems. They are more powerful than many people realize, and are often ignored because

1) the dps increase isn't visible or easy to calculate, and people really get off on seeing the actual number go up, and

2) people assume (incorrectly) that they act similarly to curses, not realizing that they in fact ignore capped resistances. So a mob with 100% fire res (75% effective) will have 45% effective res if you penetrate his resistances by 30%, not 70% as many people seem to think.

1) is a very old phenomenon. I remember noting it in the relative market values of +dmg/-res gems in D2. The +5/-3 gems always sold for more than the +3/-5 gems, even though the latter were far more powerful. Visible dps is better for your e-peen, clearly.

If it was 4% it'd take him whopping 25 seconds to regen to full from almost dead. Didn't look like that to me, it's more like 10%/sec.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

I'm running with a life build, roll it with many mods and one corrupted for the challenge.
Never came close to being one shot by this boss, how much health ? what mods ? You most likely got hit by the wave ( if you are going in the wrong direction, it can probably hit you more that one time in a very short time interval ) + fire balls, not oneshot.

SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

It's also a dodgeable mechanic, and probably working as intended.

I don't play rofldps builids, and so I actually get to fight the bosses the way they are designed to be fought, with their mechanics intact, and this is one boss where you really have to stay in motion and keep your eye on the boss. And I mean that quite literally. Use your peripheral vision to control your character; don't look at your character.

One or two weeks ago, I was still really scared of the big fire wave, but id did hit me eventually and .... I realized that the damage wasn't actually that high.
My character is pretty tanky of course, but still ....
I always deal with mechanics as I don't go for stupid cheezy extra high dps builds either.

SSF means my chars aren't tanky either. :)

Glass cannons? Nah... more like... glass waterguns. I have never had a tooltip dps >20k. And usually <10k. Altoholism dilutes my resources even further.

But it keeps the game interesting, and forces me to pay attention and play skillfully, especially in HC.

DPS checks (which johnKeys calls a bullshit mechanic, and I have to agree that DPS checks in general are indeed a bullshit mechanic) are my bane, naturally. So I didn't bother with Breach.

You can definitely get tanky enough to not get one shot by that wave with a bit of margin, even SSF, this one really isn't that much of a one-shot threat.

Right, I don't get one-shot by it, but it definitely HURTs. Better to avoid it manually than to tank it.

Like many boss attacks.

Of course, and it definitely should, not disagreeing there.
I was just pointing that if the OP got one shot by it .... something is probably wrong with either the character, or the story that he is telling.
