hooray for q&a :o

I don't know if this counts as "about you" but I was wondering if you found out what the generally accepted approach is when you meet someone new who you suspect may be transgender but aren't sure (male-looking body with feminine voice, mannerism; ambiguously-gendered name), and you feel like using pronouns.

Do you...
try to avoid using pronouns?
ask which one s/he prefers?
pick one at random and see if s/he corrects you?
address based on voice and mannerisms?
address based on physical characteristics?

What are some of the things about estrogen therapy that you've learned that you wished you might have known before hand, or think others considering it should know?

Is there any particular information resource, social group, support group etc that you found helpful in making the decision or currently?

Hello guys,

Someone earlier posted some questions that were removed for being deemed as offensive and he/she alerted me via a personal message. I am nevertheless incredibly open to this and would like to share my feedback for him publicly, without identifying him.

"I am not offended at all. In fact I warmly welcome an curiosity and questioning. I feel that you are another one of the majority who misunderstood the transgender issue all in all. I have sought psychological help and I was concluded with gender dysphoria. That means that treatment in my case can only be to make my sexual appearance match gender identity as much as possible.

Yes, you are right in that nothing I do can make me fully female, just the same as nothing a person who survived whole body third degree burn can do to look pretty again. Gender dysphoria is not about just wanting to be the opposite sex. It is an intense and hard to describe sensation that causes us to be extremely aware of our mismatching gender identity. If this sensation can be get rid of at all, I lust for the cure. Every transgender person says 'I hate to be born as transgender!' However, no such cure exists and we are down to this. There has not been any recorded case of 'gender dysphoria being suppressed'.

We transgenders communicate among ourselves all the time. Not just those in the age group of 60s, but any transperson will answer you 'I regret not having transitioned younger' Yes. That is the sad truth about gender dysphoria. The younger you seek hormone replacement therapy, the better it works. For those who accepted HRT as early as 10, the feeling of dysphoria is almost completely avoided. For those above 30s....well, that is why suicides occur.

I think what you are confusing with is drag culture. Gender dysphoria is completely separate from drag culture where men dress up as women in a sexual manner. That kind of behavior is purely erotic and has often misrepresented us transgenders. In fact we consider them enemies to some extent. A drag person who pretends to have gender dysphoria and mingles with us transgenders is called a 'spy' and currently there is no technology to expose them as we do not even have the technology to identify gender dysphoria anyway! Gender dysphoria is something that is really understood only by someone suffering from it..."

Quite sadly, many people have a tendency to ASSUME a lot of things. Especially those they have no or very vague idea about.
And yes, well, this breads such weird opinion as these. I really wish people were asking more questions when they don't know things instead of simply filling the gaps with their assumptions... :C
And this is why you turning it into Q&A might do some good to people who don't know about the subject, but would like to ask a question.
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

Were you always attracted to men? Or were you bisexual or attracted to only women at one point?

Also, did you do that genderfluid stuff, or pretty much one day had it click that you don't want to be the gender you were anymore?

Simply ask 'What are your pronouns?' It is accepted as a general rule among LGBT communities.

Things I wish I knew.

1-Estrogen treatment actually exists!
2-Estrogen does not work by itself. In fact male-female transition is defined more by androgen blocker instead of estrogen. Androgen blocker does more work in the process.
3-Androgen blocker causes you to urinate hell more frequently.
4-The earlier one starts hormone replacement therapy, the better the results.
5-Get ready to wear a bra before hormone replacement therapy. It sucks to be a woman.

There is a severe lack of transgender resources unfortunately.

HRT is generally known to not affect sexuality. Which is why we replaced the word 'transsexual' with 'transgender'. However, HRT is a different experience for everyone. Some people do actually experience a change in preference. It actually happened in me.

I went from someone only attracted to female to bisexual and slowly becoming attracted to only male.

Genderfluidity is really something for the good looking ones to play around, and plenty of them do not identify as transgender. I am merely transgender and do not play around with that.
I am very proud of you my friend for being strong enough to come out of the closet as they say.

Thanks friend!
I guess I'm not too late to give you my respect.

I don't understand the causes for your feelings. I tried, but thats to much for me. I might a lot more time to read through this whole topic and other sources to get a better point of veiw here. I will try that later. But I accept your decision. And I have absolute respect for you to talk about this in public.

If I saw it right, you'll now 6 months on Estrogen right?

What changed now? Besides the obvious. Do you feel better? Du you feel more self esteem? Less "self hate"? (idk how to describe this better). How does your environment reacts to you? I expect a lot of hate or a lack of understanding.

One additional thing, what I want to know is... do transgender Woman get their Menopause? (Biologically not, but I'm curious how this is handled)

Oh and your picture shows a beautiful woman!

Have a nice day :3

@SarahAustin you're from Germany if I got that right here in the Thread. Is that correct? If yes, what are your reactions here in germany? I never met a transgender person, as far as I know. Sorry if I'm too inquisitive here.

ps: feel free to educate me if you want.
