GGG is lying to you.

"This league has our highest player retention ever"

The tag line that spells out in plain terms that the game is growing. What they didn't tell you is that this statement isn't discriminatory of the type of player being retained. For the purpose of argument, there are two groups of players in Path of Exile - long term players, and short term players.

Long term players have been playing for over a yearr and either play non-stop throughout leagues, play permanent leagues regularly or return at the start of leagues. Short term players are people who have just adopted the game, and are trying it for the first time, or are people who have been playing for a league or two and leave. Short term players can become long term players, but long term players do not become short term players.


The statement and the data provided is intentionally obtuse - the game is booming and the game is growing. This sounds like good news - but anyone who has examined their friends list they accrued from leagues ago might notice a trend... The old and experienced players are leaving or playing for only a short time in droves.

The game is dying. And the game will die if the long term players continue to leave.

More fresh meat is coming in with each and every league, and then they stay for a while and leave.

GGG refuses to acknowledge this and will not provide us with raw numbers, or group the people playing in to groups of long term vs short term players. From one casual league to the next, the number of new players who stay onboard goes up (according to their unquantified claims) but there is no mention of the mass exodus happening in the more experienced.

I give the game two more years before it is a ghost town and is made up only the most dedicated and fresh meat. It has already happened in HC. :^)

Hell even that famous RMT guy who use to buy a lot of exalt stopped buying them too. Demand is too low.

Game is in good shape, but op is also right poe isn't a game most stay for ages in, most that try it don't like it, much less so than could be said of d2 as i know tons that wont play poe but d2 was their favorite, but also those that do play get more and more frustrated(moreso than other games) and are also more likely to leave in the long run. So this players leaving is correctly observed and true, i've said for ages ggg has no idea how much potential player base they lose out on simply because game isn't welcoming and frustrating without good reason.

For example i really hate the lab. So i really need those extra 2 ascendancy points to make my build somehow a bit more viable... what do i need to do? MORE FUCKING FREAKING LAB. That doesnt end right there nono, you need to be like top tier freak to access there, the build i like is limited yo, how am i suposed to do it?
