Is the game too GPU intensive?
Your processor hits its cap. That cap can reach each game which is using all potential of your components.
From experience: I am capping processors/gpu usage to max 85 Celsium as I saw few times that higher temperatures create artifacts. Last edited by Rexeos#3429 on Sep 11, 2016, 2:14:53 PM

" Ouch!... if your GPU gets that hot to cause artifacts then you are in risk of permanently damaging your GPU. Try my suggestion and turn V-sync on to see if it keeps the GPU cooler. Beyond that you either have to have more front/rear case fans to get more airflow or your GPU has either an inferior cooler (heatpipes are much better than the squirrel cage air blower coolers) or the GPU heat sink compound is worn out and needs to be cleaned off and replaced. Just don't let your GPU run that hot for too long or you will permanently damage it (burned out transistors). "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. you CANT get artifact because of the 85°, it doesnt work like this.
But if the gpu is pushed too high, with a too fast clock (mhz), then yes it can create artifacts or crash. The temp itself doesnt matter for artifacts (unless you reach 100+), however the "power charge" -aka the power used by the card- matters, and the clock speed too. Also, the voltage, of course. sometimes, to allow higher voltage can help to reduce artifacts, sometimes it's the opposite. To have artifacts DO NOT kill a card, it's only a sign that the card is weakened, is working above it's actual possibilities ( so tweaks have to be done with voltage, power charge and mhz) or is over heating ( but the margine is large so it's VERY RARE unless it's a gtx480). If the card is at factory clock speed, it's a defective one or it will die soon. - maybe both? I will never be good but always I try to improve. " Id like to see a picture of that . I run 2 980's but I recently built a computer for a guy with a 1070 in it , i was SHOCKED at how well the thing overclocked , like totaly blown away . At first i thought must of been a golden chip or something but i keep hearing people say things like that so i would be interested to see a screen shot with a overlay FPS counter on it getting that with ground effect's . Im waiting for winter for a new card would love to get back to one card over 2 . Just a sec let me grab a beer...@#*@ Ok how did I die this time

I have an ancient laptop with an old NVIDIA chip in it (GT 610M), my FPS drops to 7 frequently, which is barely playable, I only survive because of my SRS build, I just stand off to the side and hold down the mouse button until everything dies (or I do).
In part because of this game, today a GTX 1060 is arriving inside a new MSI laptop, along with a core i7, which will get me the multi-thread CPU enhancement and a much better GPU, I am greatly looking forward to better frame rates. :-) Frankly I have more trouble with lag than I do with GPU issues, I am wondering if I have a router that is going bad. I get these long pauses where everything is frozen (up to ten seconds). If I am lucky enough to be holding down the mouse button that spams SRS when it starts, the server thinks I have it down, and it dutifully continues the fight, with me spamming skulls the whole time, but on the screen I see nothing at all, and then I get the superspeed catch up at the end, and either everything else dies, or I do. |

After 2.4 I noticed that my GTX 680 runs hotter now while playing PoE. I noticed it when my video card's fan was spinning a little louder, then I checked temps and fan speed. I changed my fan curve in EVGA Precision software to account for the higher GPU demand.

I have recently (since 2.4) run into crash issues which may be heat related. I need to test it tonight.
