Can somone tell me what killed me?
I absolutely hate the fact that this game sets you up for this stuff. You have to build your character a certain way, to survive the content, then along comes some content that blatantly punishes you for building your character that way. It's the height of bad game design. In this particular case, it's especially bad. Most people that are running blasphemy setups, don't even have instant access to shutting them off, because of the idiotic limitation on hotslots available. Even if you were somehow super ninja, and could react in .0005 seconds, you wouldn't be able to mechanically shut things off in time because the skills aren't even displayed.
Go watch some of these deaths in frame by frame. The 'resurrect' notice will come up before your hit points even show as gone. You literally have zero chance to even try to react. *Anything* that's capable of one shotting an 8k hit point character, should have a very easily spotted tell, and the time to avoid it. These big over the top insta-gibs, are this games worst problem. Stop making content that is 180 degrees opposed to the mechanical systems you force us to play with. The issue is on the ggg radar and they are working on it. It may eventually take some time as they recently occupied with a lot of other activities.
Take into account they are a small indie company and can't react as fast as an AAA studio. Also mind that they rarely read, or take into account non-reddit feedback, as they lack resources. So, please be patient. This is a buff © 2016

there is no way this is on ggg's radar because the fix is simply to add one line of text to the boss's description. It will take next to no development time and will resolve any issue any reasonable player has. The problem is theres no way to know its coming unless you either read the wiki in advance or die to it.
If you're a build that doesn't use curses you will never know this mechanic exists and if you're a build that always uses curses you have to know it exists or you'll die. |

The mechanic is totally avoidable. Even if you don't know how it works, and curse him, there is a windup, and the nova has gaps in it... and moves pretty slowly outwards. It isn't Curse->Instant death. It is curse->slow moving nova cast that moves outward, and has plenty of space between it for you to avoid getting hit.
Telegraphed hits are telegraphed for a reason, so you have a chance to react. If you are just mindlessly melee'ing away while looking at the TV screen, then you might miss these clues... If you've never fought a boss before, and it starts doing an animation you haven't seen before, stop face-tanking. U MAD? Last edited by Docbp87#4179 on Oct 6, 2016, 11:57:16 AM

slow moving doesn't mean much when you do damage close to mobs. Sure it's easy for a ranged build to completely disregard mechanics but close range build cannot. That is just a fact of life for close range build but unusual behavior shoudl be written on the boss not on the wiki only.

GGG has always made boss fights something players had to figure out. They didn't tell you how to fight dominus. Players figured out that you have to get in the bubble to avoid the blood rain. They didn't tell you how to kill Atziri. Players figured out that you don't hit the split phase Atziri holding the mirror. They rarely tell you how to kill bosses. Players always figured that out themselves through trial and error. I don't know why people expect anything different now. Dominus was added 3 years ago. I'd guess that players had to figure out how to kill bosses even before that in beta.

you don't need to stand in the bubble for dominus you can use a flask or just tp out and back in to clear the bleed, even if you don't you can just leech through the bleed, it applies a very slow dot to you. also dominus is hardly the same thing because dominus doesn't apply the bleed it's environmental so where would they even put the text? you can't mouse over the rain to get a dialog.
atziri is an endgame boss with highly specific requirements for entering and she literally has a mirror animation. its hardly comparable to an average run of the mill map boss. an ability where curses are converted into elemental damage in a nova is a highly specific ability with immediate costs to the player's hp. it is inconsistent for many mobs with specific unusual abilities to have text describing that and others to not have text describing that or at least indicating something like with volatiles. It doesn't technically say "explodes on death for cold damage based on monster life" but it says volatile iceblood. It's a clue that something notable and unusual happens. Look at curse immune monsters, the text is not really needed since you would know its curse immune when the curse effect doesn't show up on the monsters head but its unusual behavior so there is text for it. Look at monsters that have reflect, they have BOTH an aura graphic and a text explanation. Nearly all monsters that deal chaos damage say so. Oak uses immortal call and he has text for it. Every totem in totem maps says what they do, and has an aura indicator for aura totems. monsters even have text for life regeneration and life leech. its the inconsistency where so many mechanics are outlined well or at least indicated there is something unusual but a handful are completely unexplained and unexpected. |

" The fuck is that supposed to mean? Because I enjoy mechanics like this, and I don't agree with most of the bitching and crying on the forums from people that either suck at this game, or refuse to even try to learn how things work, I'm somehow a brown-nose? I think there are plenty of decisions GGG has made that have been poor, or that I don't care for. Let's be real here... even if GGG added a line that said "converts curses to elemental damage" or something, there would still be someone bitching and moaning here about getting killed by it. Most of the mobs that SirNewbzAlot is talking about, that have lines of text telling you what they do are either magic or rare mobs. Unique mobs don't usually list what skills they use... Atziri doesn't say "Uses Stormcall/Uses Flameblast/Uses Vaal Flameblast/Uses Puncturing Spears" which is what you are asking for. U MAD?
