Are'nt totems boring?

How dare someone like something that I don't!

Making all kinds of gains.
I've always liked the playstyle of Turret Masters in RPGs. It is like people have mentioned its own form of satisfaction. If POE took place in a Sci-Fi Setting the Totems would obviously be Turrets like a Flamethrower,Machine Gun or an Energy Emitter Device.

It's just a cheezecake playstyle, so everyone use it.

As i skim through all the builds I'm seeing a sea of blade vortex and blade fall builds as usual.

But I'm also seeing totem builds everywhere.

I mean c'mon...

I use totems while leveling or for decoy etc, but to JUST use totems all the way into end game?

Do people actually enjoy totem builds? It's like you're not even playing... your totems are.

You can jump into packs and shoot fire balls out of your ass with so many cool builds... or you can choose to place some totems on a screen and hide.

Is the only reason people play them because they are safe and they can do more content with them (while being bored with the gameplay)? Or do people really enjoy them?

Serious question.

Did you just nullify almost all summoner builds out there? Spectres, Zombies, SRS, Totems, Siege Ballistas, etc?

Never done Totems personally, though I got my hands on a Sire of Shards and I've had a Soul Mantle lying around since forever, been considering a triple Spark Totem build for the lulz of flooding rooms with sparks.

However, I do love a similar style of gameplay: Summoner. Ever since Diablo 2's skeleton Necromancer I've loved summoners. There's a certain sick power fantasy behind sending your underlings to fight and die for you. And in PoE there are few things more satisfying than having 10 Zombies, 5 Specters, 50 Skeletons, and 50 Raging Spirits all at once. If I can say one thing in favor of this game, it's that I've never seen any other game that lets me raise an army quite so massive.

Haha, funny now that you mention it, turret-playstyle seems totally legit.
Maybe because for a sci-fi setting "true" melee seems pretty exotic.
Thanks for the eye-opener ^_^

^ That's how you play with all ranged builds. Totem, bow, spellcaster, trapper; it's all the same. I don't really see the difference.

Main difference is, those totems will be attacking while you run around. Thats one of the biggest things that appeal to me about totems. If I have to I can drop a cpl and stay moving while they deal dmg. This is amazingly helpful with fighting izaro while your build is still young.

Ive always liked totems and summoners as league starter builds, for the currency they take to build they are amazingly effective both in progressing through the game towards maps and then handling nasty maps. One of my first ascended characters was a flame totem chief. Ran a little slow, and while it wasnt going to be speed melting uber atziri or anything, the totems themselves can taunt enemies and then proceed to demonstrate the brutal amount of damage they can take before crapping out. The build was ridiculously safe and you could probably play it while on tranquilizers and not die (much).
It's all a matter of taste, of course. To me most boring build EVER: caustic arrow.
Censored.
I am a huge fan of summoner builds myself, been playing pet classes for a long time (EQ, D2, WOW, POE):

I think you meant 10 skellies, but yeah, minus the spectres, you just described my favorite build. :-) Watching skulls roar from pack to pack destroying everything in sight is my most favorite thing to do in this game. :-)
