[3.8] The Warchief | [Facebreaker] Ancestral Warchief | 2m dps+ | Uber Farmer| Elder & Shaper Down

3.8

pulverize change is a huge buff for us and now even more best iin slot gem. sure we loose some aoe, but its now a more powerfull than conc effect, because pulverize still gives inc area and up to 59% more dmg at lvl 20. and we dont need the "high" int for inc area/conc anymore :)

zerker totems got buffed because warbringer now has double dmg after using a warcry

This Build uses the Facebreaker Gloves wich means we play UNARMED - you get all the info you need here:

FAQ

First of all i have to say that nearly ALL your question will be answerd in this Guide IF you read it carefully!

Q: Where can i find the Gem links?
A: In the Detailed Gear Section.

Q: What should i take until i get some Facebreakers for lvling ?
A: A high physical dps rare(unique) 2Hand weapon.

Q: What is the Path of Building Link you posted in the Skill Tree section?
A: Path of Building is a great offline build planner for Path of Exile. Just download the latest version and dont forget to hit the update button for the newest version. After that you can import the Link i posted:
Import

Q: Why is my DMG so low compared to yours?
A: Check ur rings and amulet for high flat phys dmg. Just a few add phys dmg gives us a HUGE dmg boost.

Q: How i can get the Loreweave Chest?
A: You need to vendor a whole inventory full of unique rings
Vendor Recipe

Q: My rings and amulet are realy good but my dmg still sucks!
A: Have u checked ur weapon slot ? Because with Facebreakers we play UNARMED ;)

Q: Can i use Bringer of Rain because i dont like Abyssus?
A: Sure you can, if u prefer it. But you will not reach the same dmg with it ;)

Q: Why u choose Loreweave over Belly of the Beast?
A: Because it gives us the most offence and defense (it has lower life but up to 78% max res is a huge Defense boost (wich also cant be lowered from -%max res modifier).

Q: I have all ur items but i still get oneshotted from enemys like Minotaur etc!
A: This is no facetank trololol Build. You need good movement skills (shield charge helps).

Q: What would you change for HC?
A: Switch Abyssus for Bringer of Rain/Deidbellow or another high flat phys Helm (if you play safe you can also survive easy with Abyssus and to be honest, you will use a logout macro anyway :P).

Q: At wich level should i cap Cast When Damage Taken + Immortal Call/Steelskin?
A:

Target your CWDT to activate at somewhere between 20-33% of your maximum health and then max out the triggered gems as high as your CWDT will allow them. The discretionary part is the tradeoff between having a less potent benefit that activates more frequently (20% health) vs a stronger benefit that activates less frequently (33% health).

As a new player, I'd say split the difference and go for a ~25% max health trigger.

What should i pick?

Zerker:
Imho the better lab farmer because of the following...
...Warcry Heal 25% life and mana, wich means no reg maps arent realy a problem (and you can constant heal against traps in the Labyrinth)
since 3.7 you only need normal/cruel/merc lab. uber lab is optional

Chieftain:
Totems leech life for you
Totems are immune to Fire, wich means with Avatar of Fire they are full reflect immune (perfect for maps)
maybe need a mana flask

So if you just want to map i suggest to pick the chieftain (if you hate mana you can also do the Blood Magic version of it)

And if you just want to farm the Labyrinth i suggest the Berserker.

But keep in mind, these are just my personal preferences. Feel free to do what ever you want :D

~60% phys reduction (hideout) ~85% with flasks
hard to die because you stay behind your Totems
can do all map mods (no reg only with a mana flask on the Beginner version)
at lvl 16+ (facebreakers) all content ezpz
perfect for hard bosses like Ulab/Uatziri/guardians/Shaper/Elder
Totems leech life for us
Contra:
clear speed is average
Totem playstyle is not for everyone
(the low budget version maybe need a mana flask)

Ascendancy

Chieftain

First we go to Tukohama, War's Herald because this will be our main heal through our totems
Than we go to Ngamahu, Flame's Advance because here we get 50% Phys to fire and some nice Extra Fire dmg every 6 seconds
Our third will be Arohongui, Moon's Presence because this makes our Totems immune to fire so we can do reflect maps without any problems and also get some nice defense & offence bonus from this node
And last we take Hinekora, Death's Fury because the 20% chance of "Covers in Ash on hit" works like a 20% more multiplier

Detailed & Gem Links

Abyssus gives us the most adds # - # physical dmg to attacks ingame. If you are scared about the Phys dmg taken malus, you can also take the Deidbell (or better the upgraded Version Deidbellow, which you can get by doing the "Dying Cry" Prophecy).

Gems: Shield Charge -> Faster Attacks -> Fortify -> Blood Magic

The Great Old One's Ward is the best Physical attack dmg Shield. The Vix Lunaris is a good Quality of Life tradeoff with the "Cannot be Frozen" and with the right corruption you can go up to a lvl 25er Herald of Purity & Ash. Your dmg will be nearly the same. The other slot is open for your choice. e.g. a Vaal Haste, or a Portal gem etc. Another very good alternative can be the new Master Craft "+1 Totems" on a very well crafted Shield.
The XXX means you can pick a Skill Gem you like. I prefer a Portal Gem or Flame Dash as additional Movement skill for things like gaps especially in the Labyrinth
Level 25 Herald of Purity

Gems: Herald of Ashe -> Herald of Purity -> XXX

The best and cheapest Armour for us is the Loreweave. This armour gives us a huge dps boost, some life and raises the max resistances up to 78% [they nerfed it down from 80% to 78% in 3.6] (and they are fix, wich means they cant go higher through flasks, but also cant go lower from map mods like -12% max res). The Belly of the Beast is good alternative with around ~ +700 life. Try to get a Vaal Ancestral Warchief, or switch to it as soon as possible from a normal Ancestral Warchief because if gives us a HUGE dmg boost when using the Vaal Skill. Perfect for fast killing bosses and easier mapping because the vaal totems jump to the next target by themself.

Gems: (Vaal) Ancestral Warchief -> Melee Physical Damage -> Elemental Damage with Attacks -> Multiple Totems Support -> Pulverize -> Elemental Focus

Is Multiple Totems Support realy better than Melee Physical DMG?

Yes! You can do the Math in a Calculator if you dont trust me ;)

The Facebreaker should be clear - if you can, get some with a Curse on hit corruption, Temporal Chains for defense or Elemental Weakness for offence. Instead of Vaal Cold Snap (for a good and free Frenzy Charge generation) you can also use a Vaal Lightning Trap (for some additional dmg by shocking the enemys). Additional we take a Vaal Haste (Offence) or Grace (Defense). NOTICE: only use the Vaal Aura (Buff), not the regular Aura.

Gems: Enduring Cry -> Increased Duration -> Vaal Haste/Grace -> Vaal Lightning Trap(Vaal Cold Snap)

The Meginord is the best starter belt. The Darkness Enthroned is a great upgrade from the Meginord (with the right jewels ofc). The Headhunter is best for Mapping as always (you get the Mods when your Totems kill a Rare). The Darkness Entroned really become to shine together with 2 Abyss Jewels with Taunt & Blind on hit in it.

The Death's Door are expensive but give good Quality of Life bonus with "Cannot be inflicted with Bleeding". The Atziri's Steps are a good alternative for Spell Dodge & Life. You can also take the Redblade Tramplers which gives additional Physical Dmg or some rares with resistance, life and movementspeed (e.g. if you use the Bloodgrip Amulet).
Here we put in our Cast When Damage Taken Setup. If you have a good Endurance Charge generation trough your Enduring Cry you can use the Immortal Call. If you have the feeling that you dont come to much Endurance Charges i suggest to switch to Steelskin.

Gems: CWDT -> Immortal Call -> Stone Golem -> Enfeeble

Rings and Amulet with high adds # - # Physical damage to Attacks and all Resistance you need, because its the way for us to cap our Res (Steel Rings are ofc the BIS). Another good Amulet is the Bloodgrip, wich provides nearly bleed immunity (good for the Labyrinth), ~100 life reg, good life roll and average phys dmg. Best in slot would be a Shaper/Elder Amulet with additional dmg mods.

The normal Jewels you need should have these Stats: %Max life -> Phys dmg -> Add phys dmg while holding a shield, Melee dmg, Increased dmg, Area dmg and Totem dmg are all at the same dmg level. You can also take some with Attack speed if you feel the need.
Your Abyss Jewels should have the highest Flat Physical Dmg roll as possible (max is 5-8) together with a good life roll (i prefer 31+). After that you have 1 open Prefix and 1 open Suffix on them for your prefered bonus.
Note: try to get at least one Abyss jewel with #% Chance to Blind Enemys on Hit with Attacks, this gives a HUGE defense Boost. And if you want you can also take one Abyss jewel with #% Chance to Taunt Enemys on Hit with Attacks so your totems additional taunt the enemys. The best option you have is to put these 2 jewels into the Darkness Enthroned Belt.

Here are some examples:

The first Flasks we need are a Bleed immunity, if u dont use the Bloodgrip Amulet or the Death's Door Boots (I prefer a Life Flask for it). Now we need a Freeze Immunity one (i prefer a Silver Flask, if you dont feel the need you can also pick a Basalt Flask for Defense) and a Curse Immunity one (i prefer a Sulphur Flask). After that try to get the Lion's Roar (best dmg flask) and Wise Oak.

Blood Magic

"
So, if you ask me:

Is Tukohama's upgrade from Great Old One's?
No. But if offers a different playstyle with the Blood Magic Key Note.

Is it worth XXX chaos?
Depends if you want to play with the Shield or not ;).

Do I need it to clear ALL content?
No. You can clear everything with Great Old Ones.

Why the hell should I buy Tukohama's then?
e.g. No Mana Problems.

The Pantheon

Major Pantheon

I prefer the Soul of Brine King wich provides us 50% reduced Effect of Chill on You if your captured Nassar, Lion of the Seas in the Reef Map. This is very helpfull because chill can be very dangerous for a Totem player if you dont have ur anti Freeze flask up.

The Soul of Arakaali is a good alternative with 5% reduced Damage taken from Damage Over Time. You can upgrade this Soul with some nice additional effects like 30% reduced Effect of Shock & Shock duration and 25% Chaos Resistance against Damage Over Time.

The Soul of Lunaris gives us up to 8% physical reduction against groups of enemys. The upgrades from this Soul arent realy helpfull at all.

The Soul of Solaris gives us up to 6& physical reduction against single enemys. You can upgrade this Soul with some nice additional effects like Take no Extra Damage from Critical Strikes if you have taken a Critical Strike Recently

Minor Pantheon

I prefer the Soul of Abberath because i like to be Unaffected by Burning Ground.

The Soul of Gruthkul is a good alternative wich provides us up to 5% additional physical dmg reduction.

The Soul of Ralakesh is a good alternative too with 25% chance to avoid Bleeding and 25% reduced Physical Damage over Time Damage taken while moving if you dont use the Death's Door Boots.

The Soul of Ryslatha can help you in the Labyrinth with Life Flasks gain 3 Charges every 3 seconds if you haven't used a Life Flask Recently.

The Soul of Shakari is also a good Chaos reduction choice with works very well together with the Major Soul of Arakaali. It provides 5% reduced chaos damage taken & 25% reduced chaos damage over time taken while in a caustic cloud and makes you immune to poison after Capturing Terror of the Infinite Drifts in the Desert Spring Map.

Enchantments

Helmet

For DMG:
40% increased Ancestral Warchief Totem Damage
Ancestral Warchief Totem grants 30% increased Melee Damage while Active
For Defense:
30% increased Enduring Cry Cooldown Recovery Speed
36% increased Enduring Cry Buff Effect
150% increased Effect of the Buff granted by your Stone Golems
For Others:
12% increased Ancestral Warchief Totem Radius

Boots

For DMG:
Damage Penetrates 10% of Enemy Elemental Resistances if you haven't Killed Recently
For Defense:
Regenerate 2.0% of Life and Mana per second if you were Hit Recently
8% chance to Dodge Spell Damage if you've taken Spell Damage Recently
10% Chance to Dodge if you've taken a Critical Strike Recently
For Others:
10% increased Movement Speed if you haven't been Hit Recently

Gloves

Remember: The best we can get is an on hit corruption (Temporal Chains for defense, Elemental Weakness for Offence).

But the best Enchantment would be Cast Commandment of Reflection when Hit (because the clone takes some dmg for us)

OUTDATED i uploaded 2 video guides for the Skilltrees, wich you can find at the Skilltree section

Take "Facebreakers" asap ;)

They go up to 800%, but for lvling u can also use 600% one and you will not notice a real difference

This is the Gem Order for 1-6 Links

(Vaal) Ancestral Warchief -> Melee Physical Damage -> Elemental Damage with Attacks -> Multiple Totems Support -> Increased Aoe (Concentrated Effect) -> Elemental Focus

At lvl 1 take Ground Slam/Cleave/Molten Strike
At lvl 8 take Additional Accuracy until u get the "Resolute Technique" Note
At lvl 10 take Shield Charge for Movement (wich is also nice for lvling if you have some Facebreaker)
At lvl 12 Take Molten Strike + Ancestral Call is a good option until you have the Warchief Totem (note: you cant use sunder with facebreaker)
At lvl 16 take the Facebreaker. If you dont have some, pick a Rare/Unique 2Hand weapon with high physical Dmg (With Facebreaker i prefer lvling with Infernal Blow + Melee Splash/Ancestral Call and Shield Charge).
At lvl 18 take Faster Attacks, Melee Physical Damage, Melee Damage on Full Life and Concentrated Effect
At lvl 28 take Ancestral Warchief
At lvl 38 take increased Area of Effect

I prefer these Items for Lvling ;)

Goldrim is nice for Resistance problems, but should be switch to Deidbell at lvl 33

The Tabula Rasa is as always BIS Body Armor for lvling because of the free 6L. All other Rare armor is also good ;)

The Seven League Step are Perandus League exclusive Boots but can maybe obtain through Zana's map device. Easier to get are the Wanderlust Boots wich you can take until the endgame (or better Rares)

Good Shields for Lvling are The Deep One's Hide, Crest of Perandus and Trolltimber Spire

Pro & Contra

Pro:
~5,5k Life
~1000 life/s with enduring cry and all charges (over 15% life reg)
~60% phys reduction (hideout) ~85% with flasks
hard to die because you stay behind your Totems
can do all map mods (reflect is a bit meh because your totems will kill themself on hit)
at lvl 16+ (facebreakers) all content ezpz
perfect for hard bosses like Ulab/Uatziri/guardians/Shaper/Elder
Only really need 3 Labyrinth Trials
Our Totems leech life for themself (maybe they live longer)
Contra:
clear speed is average
Totem playstyle is not for everyone

Ascendancy

First we go to War Bringer because this will be our main heal skill
After that we take the Aspect of Carnage for a Huge dmg boost
And with the next 2 points from the Merc Lab we take Pain Reaver this let our Totems leech life for themself and gives us a 25% increased Attack Speed bonus after we got hit for 4sec.
Now we have nothing interesting left in the Zerker Ascendancy and so we pick two minor nodes :/

The Meginord is BIS. The Darkness Enthroned is a good upgrade from the Meginord (with the right jewels ofc).

I recommend to choose the Sand Stance for Flesh and Stone as it gives us alot additional defense

Gems: Enduring Cry -> Flame Dash -> Flesh and Stone -> Increased Area

After that try to get the Lion's Roar (best dmg flask), Taste of Hate (good defense and offence) and The Atziri's Promise (Good dmg and nice 35% additional chaos res).

the most important thing is Resolute Technique. You can decide to pick Ancestral Bond as fast as you want. I picked the Jewel slots at the very end, BUT you can pick them asap if you get some juicy jewels you want put in

Note: Take the +30 Dex/Int notes only if you need them ;) e.g. you can roll these stats on the rings if you can handle the resistance

Skill Tree Parts level 1 - 93

Note: These Parts are only for showing you they way through the Tree. Dont look at the Ascendancy or Bandits in here, they might be wrong/different from the main Build!

Boots

For DMG:
10% chance to Freeze, Shock and Ignite if you haven't Crit Recently
Damage Penetrates 10% of Enemy Elemental Resistances if you haven't Killed Recently
For Defense:
Regenerate 2.0% of Life and Mana per second if you were Hit Recently
8% chance to Dodge Spell Damage if you've taken Spell Damage Recently
10% Chance to Dodge if you've taken a Critical Strike Recently
For Others:
10% increased Movement Speed if you haven't been Hit Recently

Gloves

Remember: The best we can get is an on hit corruption (Temporal Chains for defense, Elemental Weakness and Vulnerability for Offence).

But the best Enchantment would be Cast Commandment of Reflection when Hit (because the clone takes some dmg for us)

Hardcore Changes

IMPORTANT: This may be OUTDATED because its some leagues ago and some things have changed

All credits go to eraaa245 wich is playing my Build in HC. here is his Twitch Channel and his zerker at lvl 87 in Path of Building. At his twitch Channel you can also watch some Uberlab runs. If you have any questions please ask HIM and NOT ME ;)

For Hardcore we highly recommend some changes while farming Uberlab

First of all we should realy change our Abyssus with Deidbell and even better the fated Deidbellow while we go through the traps and change back to Abyssus in the Izaro fight (we could also still use the other helmet if we are to scared ;))

Gem Setup: Shield Charge -> Faster Attacks -> Fortify -> Blood Magic

We also use a Brightbeak in a weapon swap or just put it in our main hand while traveling through the traps. In this weapon we use a Leap Slam setup for faster and saver running

Gems Setup: Leap Slam -> Faster Attacks -> Blood Magic

We can also decide to play with our Stone Golem out of our CWDT setup, so we cast it ourself and have a 100% uptime

Gem Setup: CWDT -> Immortal Call -> Increased Duration | Stone Golem

The recommend Pantheons are Soul of Solaris & Soul of Gruthkul for overall better defense

Here i will list some item suggestions for each league. I will only put them into the core build if parts of the league will be a part of the core game later.

been playing this in SSF flashback, got super lucky with a 732 FB drop, then got the deidbellow prophecy.

currently cruising through yellows with not a care. super budget gear (SSF... but probably less than 20c) and i have about 380k dps per totem (only rocking 2, havent rolled a good +1 totem yet)

i skip multi totem and go for brutality. run haste and HoP instead of HoA and Hatred

very strong build and very detailed guide. a+ would recommend for anyone who is looking for an uber killer on a budget

serker 40% more and warcry heal will carry you to reds on low rolled facebreakers, with lab running be a very easy and very good way to make currency

only negative is the totem playstyle isnt for everyone

Stack rage in the room in front of Izaro, even deidbellow is enough dps so it is safe to make labyrinth farm.

Thank you for a nice build!

Hi pls update your tree.Thx
Looks really interesting!
Mind taking screenshots with non legacy facebreakers as well so people playing prophecy can see the full dmg. potential there? :)

Cheers, Zahkriisos!
Trying to satisfy the whole PoE community is like telling a nymphomaniac to only have sex once in a week.

I think that's fairly accurate. :')

IMPORTANT: The Critical Berserker version comes with the highest dmg possible (up to 10m shaper dps). This is not viable as a league starter because it needs some items which are really hard to get at beginning of a new league. Besides that it offers a different playstyle because you have to charge into the enemys to proc the "Flawless Savegery" Passive so you are standing mostly all the time in the packs between your totems. For high risk comes high reward i guess.

Pro & Contra

Pro:
~5,5k life
~1000 life/s with enduring cry and all charges (over 15% life reg)
~60% phys reduction (hideout) ~85% with flasks
can do all map mods (reflect is a bit meh because your totems will kill themself on hit)
perfect for hard bosses like Ulab/Uatziri/guardians/Shaper/Elder
Our Totems leech life for themself (maybe they live longer)
shatter enemys (freeze)
highest dps of all versions
Contra:
clear speed is average
Totem playstyle is not for everyone
not league starter viable
standing in the middle of the action can be a bit scary

Ascendancy

First we go to War Bringer because this will be our main heal skill

After that we take the Aspect of Carnage for a Huge dmg boost

And with the next 2 points from the Merc Lab we take Flawless Savegery because you get some nice additional critical strike chance AND the possibility to get addtional 20-30 flat physical dmg, which scales very well with our facebreakers. But you need to hit and crit the enemys first. So you need to charge into a pack every 4 seconds to proc the effect (yes you still can crit even if you dont do dmg because of "Ancestral Bond")

At last we take Pain Reaver this let our Totems leech life for themself and gives us a 25% increased Attack Speed bonus after we got hit for 4sec.

Bandits

Here you can decide between Alira and Oak

Help Alira - Mana reg, Crit Multi and 15% all res
or
Help Oak - Phys dmg/reduction and life reg

Gear

Overwiev

Detailed & Gem Links

The Abyssus is a must have item for this build, no exceptions. It offers 40-60 flat physical dmg and up to 125% Crit Multi. This is a HUGE dmg bonus you dont want to miss.

Gems: Shield Charge -> Faster Attacks -> Fortify -> Blood Magic

The Lycosidae is the only option for this build because it gives us a 100% chance to hit. If you can try to get one with a Duration Gem Corruption (this will boost the Herald of Purity).
The XXX means you can pick a Skill Gem you like. I prefer a Portal Gem or Flame Dash as additional Movement skill for things like gaps especially in the Labyrinth

Gems: Herald of Purity -> Hatred -> XXX

The best and cheapest Armour for us is the Loreweave. This armour gives us a huge dps boost, some life and raises the max resistances up to 78% [they nerfed it down from 80% to 78% in 3.6] (and they are fix, wich means they cant go higher through flasks, but also cant go lower from map mods like -12% max res).

Try to get the highest Physical roll as possible. Together with a high Critical Strike Chance & Elemental Damage roll.
If you can get a Watchers Eye jewel with this mod "+1.8% to Critical Strike Chance while affected by Hatred", you can take out the Critical Strike Chance gem and put in Concentrated Effect for even more Damage.

If you check the PoB it may seems that you get higher dps if you take out the Physical to Lightning gem, but keep in mind that this gem offers us the possibility to shock our enemys. And i didnt took Ruthless over Elemental Damage with Attacks because ruthless only gives our third hit a high damage boost and Elemental Damage has consistently high damage. So overall this IS the best setup ;)

Gems: (Vaal) Ancestral Warchief -> Melee Physical Damage -> Increased Critical Strike Chance (Concentrated Effect) -> Multiple Totems -> Physical to Lightning -> Elemental Damage with Attacks

The Facebreaker should be clear - if you can, get some with a Curse on hit corruption, Temporal Chains for defense or Elemental Weakness for offence.
We put it our Enduring Cry and additional we take a Vaal Haste (Offence) and Vaal Grace (Defense). NOTICE: only use the Vaal Aura (Buff), not the regular Aura.

Gems: Enduring Cry -> Increased Duration -> Vaal Haste -> Vaal Grace

The Meginord is good Belt at beginning, but it would try to get a Stygian Vise together with an Abyss Jewel with Blind on hit, dmg and life in it. The Stygian Belt should have as much Life and Elemental Dmg as possible.

The Death's Door are expensive but give good Quality of Life bonus with "Cannot be inflicted with Bleeding". The Atziri's Steps are a good alternative for Spell Dodge & Life. You can also take the Redblade Tramplers which gives additional Physical Dmg or some rares with resistance, life and movementspeed.
Gems: CWDT -> Immortal Call -> Stone Golem -> Vaal Cold Snap

Our Amulet is the Rigwald's Curse. Its the only Amulet which gives Unarmed the possibility of crit. And our Rings are 2x The Taming. These offers of to 120% elemental dmg and 40% all res.

Our Jewels will be with an Attack Speed mod, %Life and Crit Multi.
If you can get a Watchers Eye jewel with this mod "+1.8% to Critical Strike Chance while affected by Hatred", you can take out the Critical Strike Chance gem in you Body Armour and put in Concentrated Effect for even more Damage.

The first Flasks we need are a Bleed immunity, if u dont use the Death's Door Boots (I prefer a Life Flask for it). Now we need a Freeze Immunity one (i prefer a Silver Flask, if you dont feel the need you can also pick a Basalt Flask for Defense) and a Curse Immunity one (in our case a Diamond Flask, which is btw a must have for this build). After that try to get the Lion's Roar (best dmg flask), Taste of Hate (good defense and offence) and The Atziri's Promise (Good dmg and nice 35% additional chaos res).
