0.9.13 (Closed beta) was more balanced, and funnier
" Yes. It seems like it's becoming a recurring topic in the feedback section. Can only be a good thing, I can't wait for PoE to be as fun as I remember it to be. |

0.9.5 was the most fun I had with PoE. Avatar of Fire was still around and dominant, but I felt the game had the most build diversity back then.
0.9.6 until the OB patch was muddied by diamond flask spam and CI, and then later on spell totems (specifically Summon Skeleton Totem). |

this is one of my main issues with the game at the moment. the game advertises build diversity but all in all you have to stack pure defense or play in a party where everybody just spams their aoes.
i went pretty defensive with my marauder put only about 10 points in dmg i think but i still can die to mobs more than 15 lvls below me its just dumb. i gotta say i felt stronger when i fresh started on normal. i agree that that was way better in cb and i really hope one of the next patches will fix this. |

I would definitely agree with this, back in CB I felt my builds where definitely more diverse and more fun.
I'd like to emphasize the fun part! I don't really care about balance issues as long as the game is fun! B E E F

" Oh lord. Diamond Flask + Avatar of Fire was so nuts. I remember just leveling screens with split arrow, lol. I have to say that OB seems to be much more balanced than anything in CB since the introduction of Diamond Flasks, those alone broke the game balance imo. +1 from me. This doesn't have anything to do with CI. It's just a general opinion from me that as much as balance is important, fun should take priority over balance imo. Focusing on balance too much sometimes results in too many nerfs which take the fun factor out from the game.

I'm +1 on this thread too.
Defense defense defense, all gear is +HP +resists. Anything else gets vendored :( Passive tree is >70% +HP and travel to +HP clusters. |

Sad to say but i agree with OP also. I have the feeling that the devs are using a very small hardcore minoraty as a benchmark.
The problem with this aproach is that i think a big majoraty is struggeling to find a good build to pas cruell difficulty (for me it is tbh). The game is a defence-fest at the moment and i deeply hated that when i played D3 on release. Its good to read a post like this bcouse the game has a lot to go for. I agree on that. For me the game has just a few viable builds at the moment and after so many years of playing games like wow i realy hope that this will become a game where i can find my own playstyle without using a guide to find a build that works. At the moment its a bit to hard and frustrating and i dont see myself playing longterm. Last edited by Patsboem#1402 on Feb 19, 2013, 6:31:30 PM

i cannot say much about the matter's of endgame simply because i haven't reached it yet but here is my opinion
wanting make a hardcore game is fine high difficulty is fine BUT there should be a balance 1 if one builds glass cannon and also builds glass cannon gear i believe at hardest difficulty a max of 4 or 5 shots should be what could potentially kill you 1 shot for the more hardcore gamers but at this point it should still be somewhat possible to finish the game. as a pure glass cannon but it should not be a cakewalk neither should it be for defencive built characters the quickest way for this would be to give a substantial boost to damage nodes. different leagues i believe that the whole concept of leagues is an amazing tool to bring this forth default league should be more of a introduction/fun/ casual gaming zone but with a good difficulty curve everything from there can be more difficult near impossible for all i care but NO MATTER what built you follow one should be able to finish a game that being said that is sure a hard part to acomplish but one thing that should be the deciding factor of this is the player's skill at playing not his skill at building whenever i see vid's of late game build's and how people aproach killing mobs at high difficulty its usually good skill at building and farming but there is not much playing skill involved there should be a window for this. It feels like sound logic to me that the game should be at its hardest right after the final wipe. Otherwise, people joining along the way would complain that all the older players had it easy and now the game is impossible.
I expected this, and the only complain I have is that GGG didn't plan a quick balance fix ~3 weeks into the game, as waiting for one big patch will lead to a lot of whiny threads. |
