I honestly didn't expect a performance increase when my 1080 arrived.
When I upgraded my GPU a year or so ago, I was expecting better frame rates too, but got slightly disappointed...it got slightly worse :(
However when I upgraded my CPU from a 3200MHz AMD Black to i7 6700 @4600MHz, then the change was pretty significant (from hitting (minimum) 7-10 frame rate to 30-40 on Mjölner Discharger) The plan is simple: win! If you do not win, you did not follow the plan

I can play pretty much any other game at max settings or near it with no lag issues. This game though....all my settings are turned to it's lowest I watch my FPS go up and down faster than a roller coaster.

You can't fix performance in this game with hardware. It is terrible no matter what you use. One day they might improve it. I like the quick load times for loading the game. The rest of the game plays terribly and you can't even party with more than 1 or 2 other people otherwise you play a slideshow.

I've criticized this games engine since day one. The graphics have improved but it's still very quaint.
The hitching and de-sync is a absolute joke too. No other game runs like this game does. |

Yeah.. this games engine is wrote by monkey, based on its performance and their inability to fix it during all those years. I have neve, ever encountered worse (performance-wise) particle effects in my 20 years gaming history. They could have rewrote it from scratch 10 times by now, they just dont give a single F.

Wow, all this negativity, condescending and even insulting remarks towards GGG and their game engine.
You have to realize that this engine is made in-house by GGG themselves over the course of many years. I don't expect you to know how much work it is to put together a functional game engine, but believe me it isn't easy, and it's NEVER FINISHED. Programming is viewed by many as a mathematical, logical way to write digital software, but in reality, it's just as likely to act up and do something you don't expect as you and me could. And the cause and solution could be even more illogical and thus take a huge amount of time to figure out, by which the next problem could already be happening etc etc. Keep posting your feedback and be patient is the best thing you can do. They have fixed SO MANY issues since release, I have no doubt this will be looked into as well, in due time. Meanwhile, honestly, I don't have any performance issues, I didn't in Perandus and even less so now, and my hardware isn't godly or even close. i7 4790K, 32GB DDR3, 970GTX, Soundblaster Z. Nothing special, but I do keep my PC (and operating system) absolutely spotless. Maybe that helps? Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. |

" I'm happy with my Intel i5-660 @3.8Ghz (stock speed is 3.33 Ghz). If everything in PoE is floating point math calculations then any AMD CPU is going to suck compared to Intel cpu. Maybe that is where the performance bottleneck is in the CPU's floating point math. I stopped using an AMD cpu for my gaming rig 8 years ago and have never regretted the switch to Intel. So if your performance is worse with a more powerful GPU than my old HD6870, please post what cpu and speed you are running at. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |

Does PoE even support DX12? You're not going to see much of any difference with the cards if it's not using DX12

Seeing as I have built high end gaming computers for years with cutting edge technology specs I can honestly tell you that the problems aren't with your computer/s. It's with PoE. No amount of tweaking is going to fix their game engine/server problems. End of story. |
