Internet: 1 Gbps DL, 50 Mbps UL, unlimited bandwidth (Washington server, 30-50 latency)
FPS is constant ~60. Doesn't drop for anything when solo (aside from loading between zones, but that doesn't count). I keep temps low and focus on rock-solid stability instead of OCing (especially since OCing isn't needed for anything I'm currently playing).
PS. I do plan to upgrade my 660 Ti to a non-founders 1070 eventually (GPU core and memory load will cap on the 660ti, while the CPU cores stay under 25% and the RAM under 40% (with many, many things open)).

You know the difference between RMA and RMT? :P

It's noticeable when it drops from 100 to 30-40.
Wait, is this what all those other performance complaints are about?
I don't know what the deal is behind your crashes, (and just to make sure, you are talking about actual program crashes and not that gosh-darned "Unexpected connection" thing, right?) but I hope it clears up for you.

lol, yes please report me for RMAing. I really am a dirty RMAer. That PNY lifetime warranty, so good. I keep all my receipts and boxes too, actually submit mail in rebates properly, and register things when required. Stores should fear.
Never underestimate what the mod community can do for PoE if you sell an offline client.

TLDR; No difference in performance from GTX 980 to GTX 1080.
I'm not surprised at all. PoE is "old school" arpg so your hardware can be old too and still be ok for playing. I have an Intel i5-660 cpu oc'ed to 3.8 Ghz, MSI Hawk HD 6870, and 8 GB ram and PoE plays decently at HD res (1920 x 1080) full screen.
So when you say it "crashes", are you referring to screen freezes (single digit fps), or is PoE crashing out to your Windows desktop. If you're going to post that your new super charged Geforce 1080 won't run PoE any better, what's your CPU and ram? More importantly what's your WinMTR to your PoE realm look like (see my last 4 days of PoE latency hell to understand what I mean).

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Those particle effects are killing every graphics card. Not sure how much texture fill rate PoE needs to run smoothly...
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Right, I also asked the OP to clarify what he calls "crashes" so we're talking about the same thing. What you call "Unexpected connection" is the latency to/from the game sever. Run WinMTR awhile and see if you're getting packet loss. That will kill PoE performance fast. I needed to run my own tests since I was unable to play Prophecy since it started due to some very bad NetworkLayer packet loss (read: Seriously bad latency thread for my latency headaches).
Edit: It should be noted that unless you have a 120Hz refresh rate monitor or one of the new monitors which can sync with the frame rate of the new video cards (Nvidia G-SYNC or AMD FreeSync) then you should enable VSYNC in PoE to match your 60 Hz monitor refresh rate. I was experiencing high gpu fan noise in PoE (rain and other particle effects really pushes my gpu temps) until some one suggested that I turn vsync on. That was a DOH moment for me as I can't see more than 60 frames per second on my ASUS monitor so why let PoE run to over 100 fps wasting power and generating more heat. So now I'm always in the upper 50s to 60 fps and only drop in mobs and some other heavy particle effects zones/maps and my gpu fans don't rev up indicating it's running cooler this way.

Bro you're doing something wrong with your setup then.
I've not crashed a single time since the new league...or perhaps within the past 2-3 leagues.
