No, your inability to deal with randomness is repellent.

And I've seen plenty of folks with the wings, both in my guild and in town.

And, if your only goal is the wings, have some patience and buy the damned things from the store.

Here's a great reddit post with links, and Qarl provided some relevant articles as well for understanding randomness.

Looked into both links. Thanks for assuming I have no concept of what random means, especially when neither of the articles are relevant to mystery boxes; one random discussion on a ff-online forum about RNG and another talking about map drops - how relevant!

You've obviously spent plenty on this game and are happy to insult people if they don't appreciate GGG's methods, though it appears there's no even value for each item and this is reflected in what other people have received. 7 fireworks, 4 crystals, 4 rain = more than 50% of 650 points spent on 3 items. That's definitely "random"!

The whole point of the boxes is for GGG to make more money than they would for releasing the items immediately. This is what people are complaining about after "trying their luck". So I fell for the bullshit. My fault.

No one can hear you poop in the forrest.
Hey GGG

Maybe you could elaborate on how the programmed "RNG" works with mystery boxes?

I'm sure thousands of donors, current or potential would absolutely love to know how many sets of fireworks they need to buy before becoming eligible to receive what they're looking for.

Thanks

It really is a shame that GGG have stooped to this level. But is anyone actually surprised that they implemented a stupid tax? Never got the impression that they had any sympathy for plebs lol

Wow, you really missed the point of those links then. The exact topics aren't the point, the underlying mathematics is. The idea is the the RNG of FF's system, the RNG of maps (which btw, the second set of links literally does not discuss at all, all of Qarl's links are simply to discussions about the mathematics of randomness, and his post was prompted by an inaccurate assertion about map rng).

The concept that you, and many others, seem to fail to appreciate it the concept of streakiness in a random distribution. Your comment about "7 fireworks....That's definitely "random"!" is exactly what displays you have no concept of what random means.

This post displays that too

Take coin flips (as this article does, which was part of the Qarl's set of links).

From the article
Here’s another example. Imagine a professor asks her students to flip a coin 100 times. One student diligently did the work, and wrote down their results. The other student is a bit of a slacker, and decided to make up fake coin tosses instead of doing the experiment. Can you identify which student is the slacker?

Student 1:

THHHTHTTTTHTTHTTTHHTHTTHT

HHHTHTHHTHTTHHTTTTHTTTHTH

TTHHTTTTTTTTHTHHHHHTHTHTH

THTHTHHHHHTHHTTTTTHTTHHTH

Student 2:

HTTHTTHTHHTTHTHTHTTHHTHTT

HTTHHHTTHTTHTHTHTHHTTHTTH

THTHTHTHHHTTHTHTHTHHTHTTT

HTHHTHTHTHTHHTTHTHTHTTHHT

Take a moment to reason this through.

The first student’s data has clusters – long runs of up to eight tails in a row. This might look surprising, but it’s actually what you’d expect from random coin tosses (I should know – I did a hundred coin tosses to get that data!) The second student’s data in suspiciously lacking in clusters. In fact, in a hundred coin tosses, they didn’t get a single run of four or more heads or tails in a row. This has about a 0.1% chance of ever happening, suggesting that the student fudged the data (and indeed I did).

As the article notes, the true random set has long streaks in it. This is exactly analogous to getting many fireworks in a row. It may seem bullshit that in a system with only 2 results that you'll get 8 of one result in a row (as the article's author did with Tails in the third data set), but it's simply one possible, and indeed with a large enough data set inevitable, outcome.

Look at the results in this post right above yours:

He got wings, gloom herald, 3/4 of the obsidian set and only 1 firework out of 10 boxes. That's pretty insanely good luck in terms of the value of the mtx vs. the points spent. It's the dream people have when they buy these boxes, and sure GGG is taking advantage of folks having that dream. It's what every lottery and gambling establishment on the face of the Earth does.

The house ALWAYS wins. This is a lottery, and GGG is the house. Except, not only can you not lose money on a strict "value of what you got vs. money spent" basis (note, this is not "value of what you wanted" or "value of what you'll actually use"), but GGG explicitly states that except for 2 effects, you don't even have to gamble to get them if you're patient. Get those promises from a casino.

I will definitely agree that useless dupes (in this case, the only truly useless dupe is I believe the Portal, but I can understand the case for 4 boots + 1 gloves = 3 "useless" boots) should have some sort of trade in deal (like each 5 you return gives you 1 more box).

To sum up:
Yes, it's random. Clustering and streaks are an inescapable part of a random system. That is the whole point of the math articles.

Yes, the system is clearly weighted towards giving lower-value results. This is true of every single game with odds ever. Should GGG publish exact odds isn't something that has come up a lot, and would be a valid point of contention (a couple folks have raised this, you'll note I don't take them to task for it).

Yes, GGG is hoping to make money off of people's dreams of getting mtx for much less than normal (as Afura did). This seems to be what upsets people the most, but as I said earlier and in previous posts, I have no sympathy for folks whose dreams aren't realized. Accept your choices and the consequences thereof. 99% (hell maybe more) of the "omg GGG you suck" posts are from people post-purchase that are bitter about not realizing the dream. Very Aesopian.

a good portion of them are released separately just more expensive but you are guaranteed it. Black cats for instance have been out forever. but so far out of like 5 I've got a 2 decorations a set of 15, 2 second consumables which would be awesome if they didn't work for less than a second. and Steam powered backpack, and gloom gloves.

I noticed by buying three at a time tends to give you 2 smalls and a decent size present. i suggest trying to buy and open them one at a time. and see if RN Geezus blesses you.
