So...give exiles guns then? The rest is pretty much the same at this point, xD

That's why I reckon it'd fit together so well.

Take the first person run-and-gun arcade shooter gameplay of Serious Sam/Shadow Warrior/Painkiller, then give it a ton of depth using ARPG elements. PoE's level generation, itemization, skill ecology, monster mods etc would all translate really well because there's so much overlap in design space.

Borderlands is basically this concept, but it's an ARPG combined with a console shooter like Halo. It doesn't have the same fast paced, chaotic, circlestrafey feel I'm after.

Actually I think Shadow Warrior 2 is going to be incorporating some ARPG elements, which I'm extremely excited for.

I'd love that. I love Serious Sam (although 2 was lame story/aesthetic wise). I wonder if people would rage at traps too in a FPS ARPG, XD It hurts me, though, because I really love this expansion, ):

The original Serious Sam Encounters did have a bunch of traps in them so it's hardly unprecedented, but that's not going to be the whole story for an ARPG. I suspect further comments regarding traps will result in some very derailing scrutiny of our design philosophies though so I'll leave it at that.

Well, returning to Serious Sam, the fact that enemies come in dozens but you are always tense is great. Fear the trash mobs! *puts a pleasure face*

Also sounds a bit like Hellgate: London... I really enjoyed that despite its many flaws.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
If I could fuse two games I'd probably want something like Dark Souls meets Starcraft.

RIP SC: Ghost. Development Hell shall torture you for eternity.
Bring back race seasons.

Hellgate: London comes to mind. I wonder how that game is going now?
You won't get no glory on that side of the hole.
Doom and Doom 2

Weapons and enemies from Doom 2, but with the objectively superior level design of Doom.

...I'll go now.

Civilization and Grim Dawn. It would work like this:

The char you create is representative of the average soldier fighting the invaders and other miscreants. The ARPG part then would be all about gearing up and being more skilled.

But if you are solely playing the ARPG part sooner or later your char would be outclassed by its enemies, and that's when the turn-based strategy part comes in.

In the Civ part you develop new technologies, expand influence and territory, unlock new missions, etc. But if you're solely playing the Civ part your soldiers would soon be outclassed by the enemies.

In the end, one part of the game would make the other one easier, but both would be difficult enough so that you'd have to be either very good in one of them, or balance both of them so as to ensure constant progress. My dream game.
