Where have they said that it is not? It was always like that - being PKed on HC on bandit missions, long-standing Loot options, buying challenges/crafts and all sort of other things.

Only recently they reacted, because many people were crying about being naive, and other people using that.

Lying to someone about a trade and then not delivering because of missing mechanics imo is just fraud between you and that other person and has nothing to do with "oh i'm roleplaying a cut-throat character".
In germany a spoken agreement signed by handshake (leo says it's called handsale in english) is legally binding for example.

Use common sense again:
If people do too many negative things to players GGG as a business has to step in.

Missing mechanics? You mean like all of the "protections" you've seen people mention on reddit, that were shared on poe.trade's site as well to try and help players. Sorry if you are too stupid to protect yourself, you deserve to get fucked, its really that simple.

I don't participate in those actions because I overall don't care about pissing people off or doing things to get ahead that.

Banning cheaters is a good financial choice. People support a game like this on trust and integrity.

Cheaters are far less likely to support than the players they retain by banning the cheater are. Thanks for making this public... GGG has the class not to. By making it public you're helping further the image that GGG values fairness and ethical behavior. Sorry that you don't want to play anymore, but that's a plus for the rest of us too. You likely wouldn't have supported much and one less freeloader makes the rest of us have better performance.

Friends aren't exactly 100% honest with you and stop comparing this shit to real life it's not wtf lol

The bans handed out by GGG are never arbitrary, they may be mistaken occasional but even then the player has done something to get themselves flagged as a cheat.
But in those cases GGG will reinvestigate and possibly lift the ban if it's found to be just unusual bot/hacker like behaviour.

Bottom line, if he has contacted support and they have enforced the ban i'm pretty sure they have more than enough evidence to ban his account permanently...having a "friend" post here to protest...maybe even guilt trip support into unbanning him or gathering support won't work, nor will your threat not to continue playing.

Also, they don't tell you why you were banned or how you were caught, doing so would mean that those that do cheat can figure out detection methods and bypass them.
AND I_NO has pointed out that your "friend" fucked up and they have the evidence to prove and enforce it...all you need to know is that if they are mistaken they will unban the account, there are a few threads (even one recently on steam)
They have no reason to permanently ban accounts unless they are cheats and they are very careful to make sure they are 100% cheating before perma bans are handed out
