Crafting Maps Is Really, Not Fun

" And the point is, the above sounds boring as hell, apparently to a lot of people, to the point it tends to burn people out of the game and cost GGG customers. TL2 has a functional map system that scales well and has a lot to offer without devolving to the cumbersome mess that is PoE mapping. That's why I brought it up. People who don't like the Labyrinth are not a minority: Be heard - say you don't like it in your signature. Don't leave complaining about lab to others - GGG needs to see how many people dislike it. Ascendancy must be gated on true ARPG content, not a poorly-crafted internet Legend of Zelda wannabe.

I think playing any game for 100+ hours doing the same thing burns people out.
POE has a very long shelf life compared to others. The restarting every 3 months helps. They need to add extra gameplay but that dosn't go well just look at all the labyrinth hate. Is more maps the only solution to endless grinding map problem? |

" It really isn't. Not so long ago we actually grinded Docks, Library or Catacombs for entry level maps. Today nobody will ever be short lvl68 maps. Even with just running them white you stabilize around the mid of the pack, which isn't that bad. They tuned it back a bit since Ambush, which actually made it hard to drop down from the highest tier (which however were lower then the current highest tier, a lot lower). Nowadays you quite often get your 12+ and you can't really expect more. They will never allow you to just chain T15 maps unless you either invest into your maps an extreme amount of currency or trade for them (which is the same). It is a bit unsatisfactory that groups have a huge advantage considering maps, but well thats not that unusual. |

You can call it better: "Crafting Maps Is Really, Not Rewarding at all" and it will be true.

"I did a massive-wall-of-text thread on this in GD a while ago. It's true, but it's mostly just another facet of the "trade > craft" design which permeates Path of Exile. Pretty much anyone who takes a social comparison view of reward and efficiency will find map-crafting unrewarding, and usually do better just trading for maps, at least while below the trade-community map sustainment level. Which means: for perhaps the majority of maps ran, rolling them in any seriousness is a waste. However, there is essentially nothing to be done about fixing that from a design standpoint; trading for items will always be stronger than crafting, because if it somehow wasn't sellers would lower prices until their items sold, making trading stronger than crafting again. Regarding the higher maps which are worth crafting, I feel the biggest problem with map crafting is that players are aiming for particular affixes (these days, the packsize ones). Because these affixes are ran disproportionately more often than other affixes, this wastes randomness in a system which should be providing maximum variety to otherwise repetitive endgame content. Endgame mapping would be more varied and less repetitive if affix reward was equalized among all affixes, encouraging players to run as many affixes as possible instead of particular affixes repetitively. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. " This guy is right actually... Ive had ALOT better mapping exp in making sure my builds can handle atleast the majority of map mods and make sure what few it doesnt like find a way to make the build be able to still do them by swapping in something ot some gems around. This has not only made mapping much cheaper but it helps with map , gear, and currency drops as well since the hardest most pain in the ass mods tend to be the ones that gives that nice quant and juicy pack size. Another thing ill do is like when i play a new league the first build i make i make sure i build it in such a way or atleast plan a build i know will be able to handle all map mods and in most any combination of them... THEN once that build gets up closer to 90 thats when ill start to make builds that i want to make but might not be the best for vaal mapping.. That way when im mapping with that build if i roll a map that theres no way i can do on that build ill save the map for my first build so i dont have to reroll maps and still run builds i want.. like RF for example. I NEVER make an RF build first in a new league. " Well what ive noticed about mapping as far as drops go is it is so random that rolling maps even for certain things like pack size and quant still makes little difference alot of times.. this is why i refuse to buy my maps. I just map what i get and just keep mapping till something gives. Ive run maps with 140%quant and nearly 50% pack size that were just completely insane maps and put sac frags in with it and got nothing.. then turn around and put in a 75% quant with around 25-30% pack size and it starts to rain maps of the same lvl or higher.. Thats pretty damn inconsistent. I also completely agree mapping gets WAY too repetitive.. Especially once you are to the point you are trying to lvl well into the 90s.. At that point your not going for the challenge of the map and its boss your rolling for the most pack size with certain rolls and without certain rolls and thats it. You basically will have certain mods you look for on maps and certain ones you avoid and thats it. And considering once your into the 90s you will be rolling the same maps in the same 3-4 tiers over and over the rolling system now offers nothing to add variety to mapping as a result. There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation. The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear. Last edited by Demonoz#1375 on Mar 25, 2016, 12:56:40 AM

So far here are the hilarious responses to my complaint that there is no other option then to "craft" maps because we are limited to daily zana's and have no real "random" entry without having to waste/spend our own currency and time.
1. Your build isnt good. My response - Ive already hit multiple chars to 80 in HC and now i have one at 90... ive also written multiple guides and self make my own builds. If you play SC don't even respond 2. Run "This" Build so you can do all maps Okay so now i am having all choices and options stripped away because of the way the end game is setup? Huh? That's like saying the game can only be played in certain ways which imo is completely against the whole concept of poe.. Having massive passive trees and ascendancy classes are all pointless if to play end game i am forced to roll certain builds... 3. If you cant alch/vaal, then chaos spam/alt spam. Reread my original post.... This post isnt about not knowing how to roll maps.. the point is its tedious, feels like a chore, and is making end game completely boring... Merc Lab isnt even end game and we get 1 zana a day unless we actively look to join other people's zanas... My complaint is that the WHOLE MAPPING SYSTEM is based around a failed idea. That in order for us to continue end game, we must CRAFT our own zones.. and are limited by drops and currency. What kind of backwards thinking is that? The whole game has a linear feel where you continue to climb and be able to enter zones the game provides, but oh wait once you hit end game your done. You Map or You are Stuck 4. Everything mezmery says is toxic and should be ignored. His response to everyone has been absolute toxicity and biased to the point where its rambling and incoherent. Ignoring all future posts by this guy. |
