An orb to upgrade ilvl/type

I like this suggestion alot.
I also think it should not work on unique and only upgrade within the ilvl of the item. I'd prefer it to be non random because personnaly I think the game has enough RNG in the "crafting" department. As for rarity, GCP seems about right. | |

an orb for "upping" items would indeed solve alot of issues.
E.g spellcasters can get away by using a lvl 1 base item as long as it has high enough item level for it to roll good mods. an attacking character needs to find items which has a high enough base to do any damage. this means that it is alot harder to find a good attacking weapon, as you need to roll both a good base and good mods, where spellcasters only need to roll good mods. if we could upgrade all those 140% phys dmg lvl 15 swords we find in late game it would do alot for balance | |

It is "WAY" more difficult at the moment to roll good caster weapons than attack ones. This is because every caster base weapon is also a arttack one, and these roll both types of item mods at the same time. Conversely, every attack base weapon is not a caster base weapon.
Now that doesn't mean everything though. Casters can get away with much worse gear than attack based because their power majority comes from the leveling of their gems, which is the equivalent of weapon upgrades for attack. Last edited by Gravethought#3018 on Aug 23, 2013, 2:05:16 AM

The orb should require you to have a base of the higher ilvl.
So if you want to upgrade a 5L rolled Lordly Plate to a 5L Majsetic Plate, you would use the orb on a majestic plate to create a Lordly -> Majestic upgrade orb. Then you could apply it to the lordly plate to upgrade its item type. |

Upgrading your gear to Elite was one of the best ways to extend the usefulness of weapons in Diablo 2. This would be a most welcome addition to PoE, especially for low-level Uniques. As long as the mods stay the same, I see no need to raise the ilvl of the item, just the base level.
