An orb to upgrade ilvl/type

This is an awesome idea but just for the item base type, just like in diablo2, but the ilvl must remain the same, in other terms will be gamebreaking.

I suppose ilvl not changing would be fine too, to be honest I made the post while fairly ignorant of how drops work and didn't realize you could get items of all type at high ilvls.

Now the effects of what i am saying won't be quite as bad if this currency is very rare. But if it's that rare then what would the point even be, why would it be necessary? And it would have to be very very rare indeed to keep people from buying them out to upgrade their 6links to higher ilvl. If it was that rare then what would the point even be, you could just buy a higher ilvl 6link.


It's really just not a good idea. It would have to be implemented very very well and I really just don't see the point. Just let go of your low level crap..



Now, about the uniques.. i agree they are kind of silly, almost all of them are worthless at high level. But this is not the way to go about fixing that.



Also, there are vendor recipes that involve uniques. Hell, look at your crappy unique as an alchemy orb if you want.

These orbs would be pretty rare, you wouldnt be getting them in lower levels at all

Just add a new stat to uniques that would create issues that says "Ilvl cannot be upgraded"

pretty simple fix as there are only a handful of uniques in the game where this would be neccesary
There should not be an orb to improve ilvl, period. The only way to get a higher ilvl should be to farm a higher area.

An orb that changed the base of an item to something else within the parameters of the original ilvl would be a fine currency provided that it does not work on uniques (rare/magic/normal only). I'd recommend such an orb work randomly (using the orb on a Golden Plate could yield an Astral Plate, or it could yield a Plate Vest). Even with those restrictions, the orb would be pretty good; I had a 5L tri-elemental bow drop for me natural one time, too bad it was a Glade Bow.

Agree with what you say, but the idea would be interesting. A rare level ilvl 70 ES item with beautiful rolls on its +ES and %ES, but it rolls on a simple robe. This orb would give you RNG to make it a super valuable item.

Your idea would mean that ANY rare could be judged by its rare mods and ilvl, to the point of becoming potentially powerful if you used it.

Have that awesome shield with crit and spell dmg, but its on a useless base wih no ES? Upgrade it by using an orb on it.

It should be somewhere between Chaos orb and GCP for rarity. Common enough that you CAn find it, but rare enough that you can't just spam them on an item like chaos. Additionally it should have an awesome recipe, one of every level of 'item' yields one orb. So you have one of every 1h sword gives you the orb
I don't think an orb like this should work on uniques, but it would nice if some uniques had 2nd base item they could drop.

Like say death's harp could also drop as a harbinger bow, and always does if the item level is 68+.

It would give new life to some old favorites that simply fade too fast the way the game is paced.

Certain high level uiques have no business upgrading base item though, we don't need shavronnes wrappings, vaal regalia.
