Hypothetical question: would you get banned if you knew how to dupe exalted orbs

Aw come on, we both know it is low effort trolling, but you can't deny that he knows how to press the right buttons for some of our more "reactionary" users.

I'm not sure how he will work the "I'm a veteran" bit into this one though.

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!

I'm not sure you know the meaning of the word 'accidental'.

Well I mean like the person who was duping didn't know it was wrong and thought that was just a secret mechanic of the game, a bonus if you will. A lot of games have secret stages and items, so I don't think it is completely unbelievable to think that maybe its an Easter Egg.

For example Diablo 3 has the cow level. It drops a ton of items and gems and crafting items. I don't think someone would do it and then be worried that they "duped" items. That's what I mean by "accidental".
u'll get caught soon bruh.

Hey all,

Just a hypothetical question which randomly popped in my head today. I was wondering if GGG would ban you if you knew of a way to dupe currency and accidentally used it more than a few times, like a whole league or something. Then you wanted to come clean.

Do you think they would look at it as "Wow, this guy is brave and is coming forward to help fix a bug." or do you think they would ban the guy who reported it also, because he accidentally used it?

Any official word on this would be helpful also. Anything like a witness protection program or anything?

Again, just a hypothetical question. I saw a bunch of people get banned recently, and that why this question popped into my mind. Thanks.

Duping isn't a bug, it is usually a hack. You don't accidentally hack something, you intentionally do it.

At best they will go lenient on you. If you expecting a reward, you are stupid criminal. You are suppose to report it anonymously or do it without them knowing your identity. Why do you think superheroes wear a mask? They are all vigilantes beating up criminals in the middle of the night.

Uhm....nope, still at the 'not sure you know' phase of this little experiment.

Which is probably to your advantage.

There is no way anyone could 'stumble' onto a duping process and think it part of the system, easter egg or not, UNLESS they found a Mirror and never used the internet to do anything but play Path of Exile. Didn't even have a browser on their computer.

Which would be an epic feat.

There's a line between interesting, discussion-worthy hypothetical situations and completely unbelievable tripe. And you're way, way past it.

I am speaking from strictly a legal perspective. I hope to go to law school soon, once I take my LSAT and score perfect. Meanwhile I like to just think legally. Legally it is possible for someone to make that mistake and think it is part of the game.

They can't ban your account for not knowing whether something is legit or a secret. Any attorneys here, happen to play POE, want to give us your perspective? It would be appreciated.

If they have such widespread game-breaking bug such as exalt dupe that can be done easily without any hack, they would have to take down the servers, fix the bug, do a rollback.

Nobody would be punished for it. If such eye glaring problems get through to release, It is usually the developers that need to be spanked.

BTW: How they deal with it is an interior process by the gaming company not some legal jurisdiction. Why are you asking an attorney?
When Ghuddo found out how to rollback item while crafting and showing it on his stream his account got locked immidiatly. GGG later announced that they were aware of this bug and were able to track items crafted with this method and removed this from the game. They removed Ghuddas test items and unlocked his account again.

I should mention that Ghudda didn't try to make profit with this and asked his viewers (ZiggyD was watching the stream at the time) to report this bug to GGG.

Legally speaking "not knowing" is not a valid legal defensive stance.
Example : "Hey I didn't know that kidnapping , torturing and killing minors is a crime! I did it just a couple of times by accident in the course of few years, but then I understood that it is in fact a crime, I'm coming clean know though by my own volition. So ... where is my reward guys?"
"I'm going to show you pain you never knew existed, you're going to see a whole new spectrum of pain!!!!! Like a RAINBOW!"

He's just using "accidental" to try to drag me into this. Nope. Already got a few warnings this week from similar threads trying to get people in trouble. Nope. Wont pull that trigger.

You can stop right there. They can ban your account for any reason or give no reason at all. It's their game. They can do what they want with it.

Edit: I just realized I made a mistake... I referred to it as "your account". It's not your account. It's their account.
