- the vaal orb, a fake for causal player? -
I Vaal some uniques, if I have multiple copies. Not chest armour or 2H weapons though, given the cost of 6 linking them and the high likelihood of trashing them.
Also certain strongboxes, especially Jewellers. Can get osme reasonable gear that way. High quality rares, nope, too easy to brick them! |

+1 internets for calling Infernal Mantle a great unique. It's not that much of an issue anymore since they changed its base, but still.
As for the mechanics of the Vaal Orb - yes, it is intended to work that way. You were lucky enough to have 3(1) 6L Infernal Mantles in Talisman, and got the not to be sneezed at "Cannot be shocked" mod on one of them, bricked two. That's not a bad turnout at all. The Vaal Orb is the ultimate tool in completing your gear, but it comes at a cost. Do you risk losing a great item on the chance of getting a godlike one, or are you content with what you have? Sure, for casuals it's even more of a risk, for they can't just go and buy another 6L and try again. I'm not sure, though, that the top end players can, either, especially in a temporary league. In standard, sure, many people have a lot of currency. In Talisman, both the supply of items as well as the supply of currency are more limited. Infernal Mantle, 6L, for example fetches at least 10 exalts. Probably not many people out there, if any, can just buy another 10 of them and Vaal again. Bird lover of Wraeclast

Infernal mantle is popular at the moment because it pairs very well with The Consuming Dark for 100% fire -> chaos conversion.
If/when the chaos builds get nerfed it could see a decrease in popularity, but for now it's in a good place due to these builds (chaos fireball, flameblast, flametotem, etc). " Infernal mantle is great. 1. No reflect issues period with consuming dark and fire skills or fire conversion because it all gets converted to chaos. Chaos can double dip and poison. 2. fastest ES of any unique chest besides atziris which is nearly useless indeed 3. 1+ fire gems 4. 100% crit chance Its only negative is one less aura or play risky on elemental incoming Git R Dun!

If Vaal orbs wouldn't brick things, what would be the point of having non-vaaled items

" I just gained some perspective here. Casual players find 6 links hard to acquire... that definition of casual is far too dedicated. when I think casual, I don't think "generally gets a 6l every other season" I instead think: "fought like hell through act 4 normal, go to act 4 nm and sorta gave up, moved on to call of duty" thats a casual. people reporting stories about how they never get good results when they vaal their 6 links? jesus christ people.... what do you think casual means? |

If you have a 6L, you are a rare and lucky causal player.
If you have a 6L, you choose to vaal it and you believe that you have the luck again to get a good result on your first attempt on vaaling a 6L, you are not a casual player at all. At least, you yourself believe that you are not that "casual" so you have such good luck in a row. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

What an utter waste. Is the tiny chance of getting +1 gems really worth it unless you have more mirrors than fingers?

" Vaal orbs bricked my 12 perfect IIQ legacy perandus belts when it first came out. "These probably won't be worth much legacy, but if I get a good implicit on a common legacy it will be worth bank!" Oh the folly of man. Keep PoE2 Difficult. Last edited by Fluffy_Puppies#3904 on Feb 2, 2016, 6:39:32 AM
