Bye bye Poe... Game is dead now.

Pathetic. The game is far from dead and if you think otherwise i could only assume you havent been around for to long
I usually do not read popular posts again after i made a comment on it, unless it's one of my own. I wish to have a Black robed Grim Reaper micro set in game one day, grant my wish, GGG

If you use /global /trade or important channels like /global 820 on THC it is possible to get the impression the game is almost dead compared to december and early january. It's not dead - it just takes a break ;)
Have a problem with something I said? PM goetzjam don't derail a thread.

And that's a bad thing. Games shouldn't become ghost towns when temp leagues end or become boring. Goodness forbid GGG decides not to make a temp league for the next 2-3 months.

You can only keep doing that before the community slowly comes to realize why they bother doing these temp leagues when its all ultimately the same, and eventually stop for good.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

so this is my dilemma. leagues are too short and standard is not interesting. right now i can afford to put as much time in this game as is needed to get at least somewhere in leagues. and tbh that is a whole fucking lot!

Yes, I think a lot of us face the same dilemma. For me personally, either shorter (a week) or longer (five or six months) leagues would work better. The current format is neither here nor there. I can't power-game for three months straight (or even one month), so completing all MTX challenges isn't realistic for me. Ending up with an incomplete set, which in a way spells out failure, is pretty depressing. So why even try?

Standard, on the other hand, feels somewhat meaningless because the initial rush takes place in the temporary league where also the new stuff is introduced. I liked the talismans and felt they are a good addition, but having to re-level my masters broke me. Not to mention that I started to build the essentially same character that I had built before, more than once. But mostly it was the master-leveling that killed it for me. (All of this is from a solo self-found perspective.)

Then there is the time investment itself. Sure, there are times when I can play PoE for 16 hours a day and have fun, because it's so easy to lose yourself in the game. RL shit is forgotten, problems suppressed, and it's just nice to drown yourself a bit in delicious escapism. But healthy it is not, and it never works for long. Not for me anyway.

I also contrast it with other activities, even games. In the past few days I've been playing Tales of the Borderlands. I can play this for two hours a night and feel truly entertained. Hilarious game, much like the first two Borderlands, just more condensed. And that reminded me what quality entertainment is like -- a stark contrast to the skinner box flavored, addictive and compulsive treadmill gaming represented by most MMOs and MMO-like games that I have gotten habituated by over the past almost twenty years.

I don't usually manage to maintain that level of clarity and awareness for very long, though. :)
Dont know if this has been asked already but can i have your 40ex? Would save me a few hours of sales I make by having to be online, cue up Acquisition, and wait. I would love an AH and D3 was ahead of its time. All these games should have it.
Git R Dun!

In my opinion standard is the best league
I realize I necro'd but after reading the majority of the posts.

1. The population with out a doubt is dwindling. Been gone since a couple months after Act4 was released. Ranked some where in the top 100 of a 1 week race and got burned out before the next league started. Now coming back to this current hardcore league there is less than 3 public groups in any act at any time. 8 months ago there would be 10-15 public parties in Hardcore leagues at any hour of the day. I'm saddened that the population is leaving and don't know if that can be reversed.

2. The community really is split into two halves, Hardcore/Racers and Softcore 'Casuals'. By 'Casual' I'm not down talking or even saying you're a casual gamer. Softcore is casual game play. Do what you want. Do goofy builds. Hardcore is about challenging your self. I remember when I started POE some 2 years ago, I played Softcore for about 1 month. Got the hang of effective builds, boss mechanics and surviving dsync(yes was a plague back then). I decided to join the current Hardcore 3-4 month league and have never returned to Softcore play. For some of us we like to push our selves further. There is no repercussions to 'relaxed' gameplay in Softcore. You RIP on a boss, no big deal. On Hardcore when you farmed an extra 5 levels over, try to get your hp/resistances up to par, and walk in and RIP cause you miss timed an attack and #WELCOME2SOFTCORE. Laugh it off. Reroll and keep playing. That's where a lot of the community finds the fun.

3. Play POE your way, which ever way that is.

Well, you're both right and wrong, the population is stable overall but the one in HC is dwindling as a combination of several factors:
- same uniques, mtx rewards and mechanics in both leagues so there's no point in playing both
- game performance problems despite many improvements
- even though I personally like labyrinth, I agree it isn't exactly HC-friendly
- new, dangerous bosses, designed to burst down even players with very high life/es buffers, I expect that many players started this league in softcore or played in standard to get a feel of new bosses first and then got cold feet
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

The population hands down is dwindling
I, returning from 8 months ran a Softcore Essence League toon through to see how things had been tuned since I was gone. Softcore league population is just as abysmally low as HC.

J/S
Wasn't really saying about right now. Leagues are ending so it's perfectly normal and rewards weren't that great this time so less people are doing the last minute challenge push, it seemed like the usual deal during the first half.

Also, new skills are coming next week so those that want to try them out right away are probably taking a small break.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
