" There are many possibilities. People mentioned before threshold nodes, or putting large bonuses behind melee-only minor nodes. These could work, provided they're hard enough to get to for ranged classes. Another option is to tie the bonuses to equipment. For instance, introduce a new item type that can be wielded in the off hand with two handed melee weapons. Put powerful implicits on STR-only equipment. I'm sure GGG could come up with good solutions if they put their mind to it. Then of course you have Ascendancy classes. And I know this will never happen, but: you could just not expose melee to so many extra hazards that they're not particularly well equipped to deal with. |

i have complete confidence in GGG balance team to address the subclass, melee problems. after all, it only took them around 5 yrs to see that something sucks so bad to warrant a 'buff' in armor and to add fortify for melee.

" there is a very simple way to add the defensive bonus so it benefits melee instead of ranged, tie the bonus to melee skills. for instance: infernal blow "x" dmg 20% reduced incoming damage for 3-4 secs ranged cant abuse this unless they go up the creature, hit it then run away shoot and go back to hit it again to refresh (insert facepalm emoticon). its olso a good way to balance skills, melee single target skills like heavy strike would get a higher bonus than semi ranged or AOE ones making it a clear speed vs survial option. self found league fan
