Fixing the game's balance so that "tanky melee" and "stack life/es" aren't the only build options you can go with would easily solve the death penalty problem.
Right now I can't play the game longer than an hour because I'm sick and tired of the balancing.

the game is suppose to be hard there are several ARPG out there that u can enjoy if u wanna just faceroll everything and play casual.
Point me to a game where I can build any which way I want with any skills I want without being told "we don't hold hands" and other elitist BS and you'd never see me here again.
Torchlight 2, though you will need to use the console to respec, but meh, use it imo. It's a brilliant game btw, and better than PoE in many ways (and worse in others). As long as you embrace using the console to respec you can build however you wish and try as many experiments as you like. This REALLY promotes build diversity. I have a ton of high levels in that game and no two are remotely similar, even though they are the same class.
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress. Last edited by GhostlightX#1022 on Feb 16, 2013, 4:22:29 PM

Every single word you typed is untrue. Did you even play Default? The game will murder you around the end of Cruel* if you have no survival nodes. And if you die more than about once every 15 minutes, you will never level again.
* FYI, the end of Cruel is about level 45 in "softcore" because we do not wait till we over-level things by 10 to 15 levels before we take them on. :P
If you're dying every 15mins of more, on any difficulty, even in maps, you shouldn't be playing this game.

yeah i just lost half a level trying to progress were i shouldn't have been. death is meaningless my ass. I just lost about 2-3 hours of progress on my character. I am not complaining but this isnt D3 death has serious consequences in both default and hardcore. Like that one guy said the term "softcore" is nothing more than a term used by those to pad their egos just like the term "casual".

HC and default are the same exact game.Difference being you just suffer experience loss in default and live another day.HC you tip toe around like a little pussy trying to prove something to somebody.God knows who.Certainly not me.

OP if you just want to play this game to relax, then I guess just run zones/maps that are 10+ levels below you so you can just breeze through. Sure you won't progress quickly, but what does that matter? It's only pixels after all...

Did you even read what I said? I said two things:
a) Game will murder you at level 45 IF you took no survival nodes
b) Dying often enough means negative exp
Notice the two are actually unrelated statements, although (a) will almost certainly result in (b).
It actually makes me laugh when D3 gets bad-mouthed for no build diversity and everyone's char ending up the same, when this game is actually WORSE for that.

LOL. That's why I was sure to point out to him that end of Cruel is around level 45 for default players, just in case he thought it was level 70 or something.

How aren't those two statements related? Can you even read? And how is the build diversity worse than D3? Are you really that stupid that you legitimately believe that? You must really be a one terrible player to be that delusional.
I recommend you go back to D3, that is the game for players like you, aka players that don't like using logic or having to think, or people that don't have a brain to do those things in the first place.

So what you're saying is you want to never lose EXP like some other games? There has to be a cost for something and honestly it might as well as be EXP if you die. Be thankful they didn't slap it on normal. The fact of the matter is, you die, there's no consequence on normal, you die in cruel, ruthless and merciless there's going to be a cost. So yes, softcore IS softcore and does feel like softcore, They could've just made the game hardcore only.
