PoE going to be unplayable in germany?
We (german people) just lost our internet neutrality. What this actually means is far behind our worst nightmares. If we want to play our online games with a ping that is not absurdly high we have to pay extra for the telekom/other internet prodiving companies. but thats not it if we want to play our online games without latency spikes, high pings the game company has to pay ASWELL (couple % of their revenue) to get the superior connection.
I guess online-gaming is dying, in germany atleast. _______ I dont think GGG wants to pay that amout of money just so that german people could play their game (or really any other online-game). R.I.P Path of Exile Last edited by VitaCola#6814 on Oct 31, 2015, 5:14:14 AM

And this is why more and more people hate the EU and become nationalist radicals.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Yeah thats right, im pretty screwed... im not living in an area were we could get kabel deutschland or unitymedia, which are not using the telekom routes. |

I think in the end it will all boil down to something else: Having a fast internet connection (~100MBit) will be more expensive than it is now, while average connections (~16MBit) will be cheaper. It's like a few your ago with the whole Drosselkom business: Stuff will simply cost more, which might just be a function of the capitalist market.
As for German cable providers being unaffected: They have to get backbone access too. In the US, several cable company were already "pressured" into paying more to the backbone providers for fast video streaming. A sword he brought, his foes to maim and rend, from places dark behind forbidden doors, But night by night he woke with frighten'd roars from darkest dreams, too strange to comprehend. I don't see the problem.
You having to pay more to get a superior service compared to someone not gaming is perfectly normal. Complaining about it is simply stupid. GGG having to pay extra won't happen. |

As I understand it, you're jumping the gun.

I'm not familiar with the entire situation but implementing a policy which kills online gaming sounds like an expert 'how to be massively unpopular' move. I doubt your politicians are that stupid. I mean, that would be as idiotic as, for example, saying all refugees are welcome, there's no upper limit and you will be happy to help.
Oh, wait... You have to be realistic about these things.

The law is not even implemented in germany. Noone knows how it will turn out in the end. The telekom would like to add a priority system, but that does not mean it will happen. And even if this will happen, from where do you get your information that gaming will be unplayable afterwards?
To speak about the end of online gaming is nothing more than a joke. Last edited by neglience#7626 on Oct 31, 2015, 8:50:03 AM

"Do you live in Europe? Just wondering because 16 is already pretty good for the US. I don't even know where you could get a 100MBit connection over here. |
