My Problem with the community as a Theorycrafter/Guide maker

they made fun of my Leap Slam/Heavy STrike Glass staff marauder, and I'm dead serious here.
It's viable, I kill stuff like a pro with it :(

Seriously, you should be happy your build didn't become massively popular, the daily spam of amazingly stupid questions is overwhelming :D

I actually had a rather lengthy post planned for reply,but in the end I'm just going to say good on you Slayertip1 and keep on keeping on.

i also consider myself a theory builder.

i wrote some builds, some of them nice and some are kind of terrible, but i love the theory more than playing!
usually when i finish a build, and it successful one, i just getting boared of that build after doing 100 maps, and thats it, back to another build theory crafting.

i would love to get link to your builds (went on few of your pages and didnt see them), maybe i can learn some stuff from them.

also as fellow theory crafter i would love to get some uniq builds ideas u saw. i ofcourse would name ghudda (he's just crazy), strangecloud (Sustainable Perpetual Auto Caster build, and also shatterbolt build) , and PepprmintButler (kamikaza clones build) as the most uniq builds concepts i saw. if you know on any other, or if you want some feedback on ideas, i would love to help :) ( and also can ask you for advices, have already another crazy build idea).

I'm totally late to this party. But Charan got it right. Almost right. I've gotten positive feedback, just not a LOT of it. Not unexpected, since I don't go for any of the flashy guide promotion stuff - I just post things that work.

Of the 7 characters I've leveled since Awakening, one has been posted, one's pending some optimisation and then probably posted, the others aren't worth writing. Either because it doesn't work well enough, or because someone else has already done it better. I have at least as many ideas in mind to be made, and I think most of them won't be worth writing either, but that's not why I do it.

Now, I think I'll talk about the people who don't exercise much of a voice in these discussions. Pick a basic idea (often one that's known to work, but I've also seen some wacko ones), use expertise born of long experience to make everything else fall into place, never publish anything despite their builds working better than any guide out there. Not even kidding, this describes easily half of my guild's active players, as well as most of the ingame friends I actually talk to.

There's a whole level of community out there which simply doesn't need to netdeck anything. They can make (relatively) budget builds, often using interesting mechanics, with scary ridiculous DPS when optimised, without guides for reference. I have no idea why they talk to me, but I'm more than happy to take advantage of their expertise!

Yep, as I said - with some exceptions, most popular guides are weak. Their strongest point is usually the marketing. Made the mistake of following a massively popular incinerate guide in warbands, meh. Built something which deals more damage and is tougher at a fraction of the cost.

That's when the game actually becomes truly insteresting, when you stop reading guides and start exploring builds for yourself. Of course, it requires knowledge and experience, without them it's much better to follow a guide.

If you want to make build that will be noticed on reddit you have to: put catchy title, submit your video on good time of the day, have good miniature, make good video (not build, video).

Also how Reddit work don't make it good for discussions that take longer than 1 day and people often write what give karma points not what is good for discussion.

As OP passed out I will borrow thread for a min-

question to guys who did multiple builds: do you have any requirements for given level to consiver build works or not? Dunno, Atziri normal at 90 tops, with 1 6L or such? I'm not buildmaker myself, I just have diy ranger and marauder, but I don't really know how to compare them to general "sufficient build idea". (my guild desolated with 2.0. unforunately and I don't have social-build mirror tbh
