A 18+ game and people complaining about other's nicknames.
Many 40s here still sleeping with their mommies I guess. At least this thread made me laugh. I'm in an abusive relationship with life. It keeps beating the hell out of me and I'm too cowardly to leave it.

Aw. I dont care. But there is a line. and some people cross it. This line is pretty blury and different to most. But its still there. However. One must find a way to cross the line that is acceptable (also subjective but yeh). If you cant do that then.. you probably should make friendlier names.

Well, honestly I don't give it too much thought either, but although I tolerate profanity, I'd agree that there's a line that shouldn't be crossed.
Trouble is, given the requirement that toon names must be unique across the realm, choosing a new one may easily end up in frustration and, consequently, in a peppered toon name :) After 30 failed attempts to name my marauder to something really epic (both in english and romanian), I must confess that I've turned to dark side and chose something about 2 pairs of.. well, family jewels. Have you played Battlefield Bad Company 2? Try any EU server, german, russian, UK. You get almost instantly permanently muted or kicked or banned if you say something "foul". Such as "idiot". Oh the irony... in this game players (the in game soldier voice actors) constantly scream and yell stuff like "Take that, motherfucker!" "Motherfucker I'm hit!" "Sonofabitch DIE!" "WHATTAFUCK are you doing?!" "Yeah? How you like THAT SHIT?!" etc. etc. etc. But the holy admins who run these servers put on this ridiculously epic, hypocritical chat censor on. As if the game would be played by nuns and priests, without any volume. Just awesome. You can't even communicate with your team fast. Try saying "if u come here i repair your vehicle", because the oh so clever censor thinks that you are trying to say "fuck" by saying "if u come"... And another gem: "i need a minigunner in my heli!" because, obviously, minigunner = "slang for the N-word". Things like these make me really lose faith in humanity. TBH, IMO people with such a low iQ shouldn't be allowed to host servers or even use the internet. Seriously. "Players can now smack around players who are having trouble very early on."

If some keyboard warrior however floods you with abusive text online, you can just click ignore. If his name bothers you. Don't look at it. It's not like his name is in bold font size 128 centered in the middle of your screen? THAT would ruin the gaming experience for anyone, no matter how profane or lovely the name. Ok? The first thing I did when I logged into the game for the first time was close the chat box. I haven't opened it since.
The names that people choose doesn't effect me, but people are right, there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. What I get a kick out of in this thread are the people who are offended that other people are offended at the names they see. I muted general chat not because I was afraid I would see something that offends me, but because I don't want to see things that break the 4th wall. Nothing breaks the 4th wall more than stupid names, and the kings of stupid names are the ones that are purposely offensive, while not being clever. A Greek Mythology Themed Character named "Testiclies" is great. A random character named "PenisBallsLicker" is stupid. I don't want to see you, party with you, or even know you exist. Don't get upset and offended that people don't like your name if you aren't adult enough to be clever, and get your kicks out of TRYING to offend people. |

Well as PoE is not developed in U.S.A. i don't think there should be strong feeling about mature language at developers side.

all of those are just words and i don't see why some 10 year old should be banned for creating nick "yougotsmalltits", or be censored natively while typing anything in chat. I would just ignore it, possibly think that it's not much clever young boy / girl for letting self to be represented by nick like this, but i couldn't care less. I think more dangerous are people with nicks "ILovePuppies" while spamming KKK bullshit, but we have Ignore list, so don't care either. Name yourself with stupid offensive bullshit, you will be treated like stupid dumbass. Developers should only consider the legal status of letting kids to play, to avoid neurotic mothers from suing them for the fact, that her kid is making online trade with players like "SuckMyCockroach" I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community.
I am not speaking on behalf of someone else and I don't get offended by things that have nothing to do with me. 3.13 was the golden age. |
