Srs question, when did people start calling a single, individual monster a "mob"?
How Can A Monster Who Isn't Mobile Still Be A Mob

Yeah, "mob" for an individual entity, from shortening "mobile" is quite old. That doesn't stop it sounding silly, given the word is far more commonly known as a plural (but then, sounding silly doesn't necessarily make it bad terminology, either).
I remember some conversations around the office about referring to an individual monster as a "gang", just for the hell of it, and whether that could catch on. Last edited by Mark_GGG#0000 on Aug 3, 2015, 1:25:51 AM

In french, "mob" is still used for video games, but has absolutely no meaning outside of that, plural or not...

" "Gang" short for "Gangbusters" is what I imagine the cleaner suggestion being. |

Why does this remind me of that 'HotForWords' girl from youtube?

I have another example of idiotic misuse of game slang. It apears in german, so I dont know exactly if people use it in english, however it goes like this:
When you kill a monster, it might drop an item, and translated, german people will often say: "Yea, I dropped item X" It sounds so dumb, please dont say this! Correct: "Yea, finally item X dropped!" Last edited by ExiledRenor#3596 on Aug 3, 2015, 5:23:33 AM

" Do they? Do they really say "Ich habe x fallengelassen"? Probably more like "Ich habe x gedropt." Yes, that's really silly. On the other hand, I've often read here and in guild chat (in English): "I dropped a [insert item]." Bird lover of Wraeclast

" Noob and newbie definitely have different meaning. It is very close to what I've described. The wikipedia article is edited by a noob - he has obviously been trusted to edit wiki pages, but doesn't have enough knowledge on the topic to distinguish between the words :) |

Gonna have to agree with others here: Newbie = New guy
Noob = idiot who should know better :D Nub = Stupid shortening of Noob |
