A Very Unpleasent Experience

Agreed. Perhaps the changes will wind up being better for the game, but right now I'm not the only one who's concerned about build diversity. And we shouldn't blame people for getting frustrated when a character is ruined! Maybe OP is being melodramatic, but give the guy a break - he spent long hours on work that's now been undone.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.
The 2.0 experience has been an odd mixture of the sublime and the awful.

Sublime: Lockstep, streamlined leveling experience with better map/waypoint layouts, new content (singling out Daresso's Dream as particularly excellent).

Awful: A fight I can't get past (cruel Piety Abomination). Nerfs piled on nerfs. They've resulted in a skillcap so high that I don't think I can play any more. It used to be that I could build around my limitations as a player, but it seems that's no longer possible. Once I found that I'll never get past Piety, I though that at least I could go play some Standard, but, like the OP, I discovered that the best character I ever had has been nerfed to unplayability.

Since it's been a few teenage lifetimes since I had the reflexes of a teenager, and I cannot hit 10 different keyboard buttons with millisecond precision while never taking my eyes off the screen, and since that's now the sort of gameplay the game requires, I am, unfortunately, done with it. It was never the game I truly wanted, but I got into it anyway, mostly because of GGG's awesome commitment to avoiding the pay-to-win syndrome that infects so many other games.

It was fun while it lasted, and may those of you that can handle it continue to have an awesome time!

No thank you OP!

Thank you for being so thoughtful for the rest of us. Thanks for letting GGG know, that making the game more balanced and increase the amount of viable build choices is utterly horrific for all of us. How hard can it be to understand; that all we want is to let the game stay exactly the same for the rest of time so that we don’t have to worry about our single charter being nerfed in between our sporadic ventures with the game, once every few months. Forcing us to come up with new strategies and maybe even... *shudders* have to REROLL!

increase amount of viable build?

lel

all build with LC, armor tanking, AA
all melee with fortify, taste of hate

only around 10 build viable now instead of the many build we had before (RIP MY RF, ho yeah you're right RF was so op, lel)

nice.

hurr durr more build variety!

but yeah casters are dead this patch some will survive but defensively they are garbage

Same ol' belligerent Aimless from the D3 wiz forums I see. I remember you being called out on those forums many moons ago and tail between legs disappeared to drink your humble cup of stfu for a very long time. The guy is saying hes too old to react fast enough to indiscriminate, overtuned spike damage in his old age and you come out with this crap? Dafuq... He even ended his post wishing everyone who's enjoying it still an awesome time!

Overall 2.0 has been hugely polarizing and that's fine. I think some things need to be tweaked here and there but enjoying the challenge. It's just a shame that some will take a look at the changes and call it a day but totally understand that some don't have the motivation or time to persist after their invested build has been nerfed to the ground. This is afterall a video game, and not a job.

The point of this thread is this: the OP had a build, wanted to play it again (maybe just to experience the new act, the new story, who cares)... and he can't.

The truth of the matter is that the new changes have been drastic, no two ways about it. EB stacking gone, Ondar's gone, leech gone, multiauras gone to name a few... And builds don't consist just of the skill tree. There's a lot of gear, and leveled gems, and links, and pain and sweat going into a build. When a passive tree reset isn't enough to save a build, when the gear you had just doesn't work with with the new mechanics, it's normal for players to get annoyed. I don't want to sound melodramatic, but after two weeks of trying to salvage my own build, I realized that it's probably impossible and

I agree with what you said, but honestly how can you expect much non-hostile comments in a feedback forum, where 90% of the people are immature trolls, elitists or fanboys who will flame you endlessly the moment they catch any sight of a comment like "nerf difficulty" or "too difficult" or "this game needs XX improvement"?

Logs in after 4-5 months, complains about his old character.

If you've been out of the loop for THAT long (one new challenge league and a major expansion), you can't reasonably expect everything to be exactly the same as when you left. Sure, that one character got hit by a lot of different changes, but damn, dude. Adapt and overcome.

You got a full point reset, did you just put your points in exactly the way they were before without reading about the changes beforehand? Looks like you messed up. Not a good idea to blindly throw out skill points in PoE. You were level 93, you should know better.

Zero sympathy.
In the 2.0 patch notes, players were encouraged three times to play a new character... explicitly.... as in "We encourage all players to start a new character".

So stuff like this isn't on GGG.
Well this patch likely had some of the most impactful changes ever. So going back to old characters isn't that easy. I didn't even try any of mine yet, since I was basically excepting that to happen.

I'm also not sure about 2.0 the new UI isn't any better just more generic, it looks like some form of pattern you can download to use for your ARPG, I just miss the connecting to Malachais story entirely... well maybe it symbolizes the lion heart you need to be brave enough to face Malachai and the skull that remains of you if you try... no idea. The UIs functionality is clear and from a gameplay perspective its fine... but it seems to be reduced to just some form of information about your character, not really as a part of the game.

The difficulty... its hard. To be fair new content always means good awful difficulty. The last time new content was basically forced was Dominus. And Cruel Dominus was one hell of a road-block. I got used to it, so I played summoner and FT, summoners always work if you get past normal and FT is quite strong right now, GGG normally needs a few takes to get well with the balance... it's something you get used to after a while. Luckily I'm flexible enough to just play something that is at least decent. And summoner works well doesn't require good gear (Queens Degree and Bones of Ullr are not that expensive) and is actually quite fun to play. Normal was a bitch though, but after that it went better.

I do understand that people feel entitled to use their old chars, but with massive changes like those just rebuilding old characters doesn't work. I would agree that ES (pure, not a hybrid) and selfcast is weak right now, there are some spells that are still decent (Firestorm seems to work right now) but it needs a lot of adjusting. I just assume that this gets better over time, but its hard to tell. Well it was casters in 1.3 now 2.0 is the time for melees to shine, I don't really feel bad about that, its just how the game is progressing there is always one FotM and the rest feels lackluster.
