Check my character, Yamenasai. Maybe a bit of an extreme example (basically stacking life + regen + leech to benefit from multiplicative returns), but it certainly works really well. The passive tree is somewhat heavily invested, but I have zero other leech sources on gear (except my weapon, but not having that is certainly not going to break it). With this setup I can pretty much hit my leech cap fairly easily, even in single-target boss fights, and my leech cap is actually higher than it was pre-nerf (33% max life/sec).
