Life Leech 2.0

so as i entered into awakening fully unaware of any of the changes, i soon found that life leech has been nerfed to shit. this must be a bug or something, as i asked lots of guild mates and they said that they fucking hated the leech changes.

everysingle person i asked said they despise the leech change. so why GGG would leave it nerfed i would never know.

if any else feels like this should get changed back to its original working condition. then please give your opinions below. Chances are i wont read this again so if anyone from support wants to talk, try do it ingame or through pm.

Thanks, lets get this fixed soon as possible

Overall I like the leech changes. Allowing leech effects to stack means that Vaal Pact is no longer mandatory to get anything serious out of life leech, which opens up for the use of hybrid regeneration-leech builds alongside pure leech builds.

But allowing them to stack necessitates the serious reduction in power of individual leech effects, and this has been done.

It is possible that some of the values involved in the leech mechanics need further tweaking, but overall I consider the revamped system an improvement.
Personnaly i hope they nerf all the sustain mechanics

its because sustain in this game is so strong that the famous '1 shot mechanic' is the only thing that can kill people.

LoH next BABY ! (cause that is still batshit insane)
leech was imba.

you could make a char only with leech as a defensive mechanics and it would work.

it doesn't anymore.

Now you have to build a complete char, with offensive and defensive mechanics like frost wall.

before, to tank, you just needed the IC combot and leech.

It was pretty stupid.

now you can still leech, but you need some items, node, not just one item or gem for infinite free ez life
I generally agree with OP. Leech definitely needed a nerf, and I like the new system in theory. But the numbers need to be adjusted!

As it stands, leech is pretty crappy and won't be used as a main defensive mechanic by anyone - even with significant investment (Vaal Pact would be mandatory for that kind of build because the base leech rate is absurdly low). Life regen is far superior, and we are soon going to see leech disappear from the metagame. I don't think that's what GGG wanted.

I don't mind it that much. It took some re-thinking to get mana enough, but by and large I think it is still viable, though it can't stand on its own (which it shouldn't anyway IMHO).

I think there may be a slight adjustment needed, maybe up leech percentages by about 25% (0.2% becomes 0.25%, and so on), but other than that I think it is fine.

using life leech on my cyclones and its working quite well
not as OP as in the past but its very good for only having to invest 4 points
keeps my alive against almost every thing.

and the few time's its not enough life regen/potions will fix that

the issue with the current leech is that people at the NW part of the tree just can't get much value out of leech simply because of the lack of leech nodes

I'm not sure if i can hit leech cap on single target, but think so else rather close. That takes one leech cluster, blood rage, some few other leech weapon nodes and a life leech gem. I am not even a dps build, i am a tank with huge hp, which for those who will forget to read and just rage means i'm not only needing to leech more than a random char due huge hp, but also do less damage than a regular char, meaning again i need to have higher leech % than a regular char. All in all what am i sacrificing to get it? Maybe 5 passive nodes and a life leech gem.

Get with it, they don't want you to have capped leech without effort, and i like it that way, but its still really easy to get the regen.
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

The only thing I'm really missing with the new leech is a new leech wheel in the Witch area - or perhaps the Witch/Shadow border area - dedicated to improving mana leech with spells, i.e. having nodes of the type:

x% increased mana leeched per second
y% of spell damage from spells leeched as mana
+z% of maximum mana per second to maximum mana leech rate

Mana Leeching was hit very hard by the 2.0 changes without the possibility of trying to shore it up with passive skills.

Good idea! I agree with that.

Also on the life leech front, I think the main issue is utility vs single target. That's really what I mean when I say its not very good anymore. I don't expect anyone to be able to facetank bosses, but right now its extremely dangerous to take on a boss if you rely on leech - even with investment!

Again, I don't think thats what GGG wanted. They wanted leech to be great IF we invest, which I totally understand and think was a great idea. It just hasn't worked out well.
