My own fault for not reading too much into how they work but his is my naive/intuitive/natural impression:
I love the Tempests. It's great that you can experience stuff like Soul Eater without Headhunter etc. I like that you have to place youself around them in order to maximize survivabiliy. Also that you might have to back down from a fight because of a tempest making it too difficult, and so you can farm some more before progressing. Maybe since we are still this early in the league it will even out, but I often find that the timer for some buffs are too short in order to keep it up. It can also just be my bad build that dont have enough dps don't know. About item rewards, I haven't experienced or noticed any of that yet. Just reached MErc thats maybe why. I guess that's my 2 cents for now. Will probably come back with more later on |

Are the Tempests impactful?
Majority of the time No they are not. Are they scary? Only the Buff ones. Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding? Not for lower levels Are they better at higher or lower levels? Higher because of the duration Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now? No Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands? Yes Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest? No it was softcore |

I don't like that tempests affect boss fights. I need to fight cruel demon laser Piety, but she's had tempests there for hours now. That fight's already bad enough without tempests spawning while I'm forced to run in small circles, since any deviation from the forced circle running ends in death. I really don't feel like logging out any time I see a tempest start to spawn.
I'm so overleveled now from farming various zones while waiting on tempests to leave her zone that it's ridiculous. Overleveling isn't enough to prevent Piety from killing me with a tempest on her side, so I guess I'll just stop playing POE for now. It's annoying that I'm locked out of progressing due to this. If there's a tempest there when I log back in, who knows how long it'll be until I bother checking again? Not being able to play my character is pretty demotivating. Edit to add some of the requested info: I played Tempest purely because I'm trying to get the level 90 in HC achievement. It sounded terrible compared to Warbands, and in practice it's just as I expected. They add nothing new and exciting to the game, since it's just rehashed mods affecting the same stuff I've already seen. New content like warbands full of interesting unique monsters excites me. Boosted damage and size changing do not. For me, there's no way to fix this barring a complete removal of tempests from tempest league, which I obviously don't expect. It's just going to be a long, crappy league just like Rampage was for me. I'll either switch over to regular HC or wait on the achievement and play Warbands league after my Scion dies. So I noticed this thread as I tabbed out waiting for a tempest to disappear so I could progress, now that is a bit of feedback in itself. The tempests that does AoE damage is incredibly annoying as a summoner because it keeps killing my spectres. I'm at the end of cruel and it just feels like an added difficulty without any reward for pushing through it, it's harder than most map mods(for my summoner at least), and gives less rewards.
Warbands seems more fun, rewarding and not as intrusive, which sadly seems to be the case every single time, bloodlines, beyond, invasion... they were all just punishing without any rewards while the softcore one had pretty sweet stuff. |

Currently level 29, have been up to 92 in past Hardcore leagues.
Are the Tempests impactful? So far. No. Them randomly proccing on mobs offscreen is annoying, but as far as being "useful" they really are not, or even that useable. Poe is about speed and efficiency if you want to make it to high levels and contest the ladder in a hardcore league or even just save up for them items you want. Needing to sit in a random place for a few seconds to get a buff that wears off by the time you next meet some mobs is just a time waste. As for debufs, you can just walk around/through them without much bother. Are they scary? Not really, even without move speed or a movement skill you can just stroll past them. Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding? Only found an Item Quality one so far, mostly just ignored it as wasn't worth slowing down for. Are they better at higher or lower levels? So far up to 29, they have all been pretty ignorable. Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now? No.. well having general chats open during playing causes so many lag issues it is not worth it. Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands? I see Poe as my hardcore character game, I find D3 more fun for softcore Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest? No, but I have friends who did, just because they tried tempest and the general feedback was that it was just "boring and annoying".. must say I kind of agree.. I play because I like POE in general, the league though as it is, is just pretty fluffy and ignorable. The impact factor from past leagues like having crazy bosses spawning out of the ground if you kill too much in one place to "if you stand in this for 5 seconds you get smaller or something..." is pretty massive. As I say, I love the game and I don't want to just sound like a downer.. but the "league" this time around is (so far) just sort of fluffy swirley things in some places that don't do much of anything. It's not exactly "fun". |

Hey Chris,
Here's my feedback: I still feel that there aren't enough rewards for tempests. As a hardcore player, I think there should be some more incentive to engage in more dangerous/risky situations. Yes, you added 10% quantity for zones with tempests, but I don't really feel much difference. Also, I've never got to experience the item rarity/item quantity tempests, so I don't know how rewarding they are. |

This is probably my favorite hardcore modifier I have seen yet. While I haven't made it into Cruel yet (curse you Act 4!), so I cannot speak as to the difficulty it entails later, I really like it as I've seen it. The way the tempests feel 'natural' and the things that they spawn attacking enemies too, makes the experience feel like 'Oh, this is what the Karui were dealing with when they tried settling.' I hope I make it to higher levels so I can see the full range of these things.

Are the Tempests impactful?
Yes and sometimes stall progression. Are they scary? Varies a lot, some are really scary like freezing when you aren't equipped with a "of heat" flask. Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding? Haven't ran into any other than the "vendor everything" during normal and cruel while in Merciless I've only seen a few tempests so can't really comment on merciless other than I didn't see much new here. Are they better at higher or lower levels? Yes, better variance. Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now? Not yet. Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands? Playing Tempest because of friends. Both look fun and from what I've read most seem to prefer Tempest. I don't see one being better than the one and I'll probably spend more time in Tempest but also play Warbands later on. Last edited by Dinky#1616 on Jul 13, 2015, 7:03:13 PM

I decided while playing beta that I wanted to give HC a real shot when 2.0 released. I didn't even make it out of Act 1 Normal before getting annoyed by the constant spam of nonsense that are Tempests.
RNG is a good mechanic. RNG multiplied by RNG is a bad mechanic. Randomization keeps the experience fresh with new possibilities, but there is a point where the number of possibilities becomes meaningless. When this point of overload is reached, any progress or defeat just feels arbitrary. PoE already swaggers right up to that cliff and announces its boldness, but Tempests has caused it to trip over its own shoelaces and plunge over the edge (during it's quasi-relaunch no less.) I'll be going back to Warbands for now, that is a fun and interesting mechanic. To put it more specifically, Warbands adds an acceptable level of randomization to the experience and rewards players accordingly. In conclusion, I reached complete disappointment with this league in a matter of hours. I am actually a bit pissed that 2.0 isn't going to be the bridge into HC that I wanted it to be. |
