He's said in the past that it's something we try to avoid and not something we're going to constantly do to devalue items. This is all still true.
That doesn't preclude that sometimes it might be necessary, rarely, and Chris hasn't said otherwise.
Sometimes I'm surprised Chris still interacts with the community at all, given how often words he never said get put in his mouth or people give him shit for "promises" that were never made (and in some cases the opposite was explicitly said). Then I remember the kind of all-round good guy Chris is, and that by-and-large, most of the community isn't that silly, so I don't stay surprised for long. Just a few seconds of confusion every so often upon seeing stuff like that.
It's times like this^^^ when I wish there was a +1,000,000 button to click.
Well said, Mark.

lmao wow SHOTS FIRED.
I think Chris is a big boy, he can handle himself. who cares if people misconstrue his words? it's part of the job. either let him talk or don't let him interact with his player base at all. Let a GGG crony be his mouthpiece and deal with the big mean community and all their silliness.

Maybe Mark isn't posting as a GGG employee, maybe he is posting as a mate.
If my friends were getting shat on by a bunch of idiots, I'd probably fire up as well.

With all due respect - and I get that things change - but I have watched videos with Chris describing how GGG didn't want to wreck players hard work by with every expac released. He's said it a few times - like at least 2 or 3 times in video/interview tours he's done. (Chris was alluding it almost as a barb aimed at MMOs and how every xpac that's released invalidates everyone's efforts leading up to that xpac.)
...
Just understand that: yes - Chris absolutely has said something about it in the past.
That was literally the point of my post. He has said something about it. He has said it's something we don't, in general, want to do. He has not said that we will not do it, or that there won't ever be circumstances required where despite the negatives, it's the best option for the good of the game.
The OP, which I responded to, asked whether he had said we would not do this, and the answer to that question is no.

Mark, I appreaciate you clearing this up, a lot.
Maybe, if you still rather avoid power creep and invalidating player's efforts, it would be a good idea to explain your reasoning why it was neccessary to add the new tiers of affixes in this specific case? If I look at them they appear to be a miniscule improvement from a gameplay perspective. Probably not noticable for the vast majority of players. On the other hand, they have a dramatic impact on the value of current 6*T1 items.

The problem is the path association this move is doing in player heads when thinking about what next after A4.
For example you tell players you don t want to do it but the first big patch it append, you raise the weapons dps because the new zones are harder. It does not need to think very hard to extrapolate for what will come next if you create A5-A6-A7.
If each time you create an act, the zones and monsters hp/life will be raised of course a player will conclude you will also raise again the Ilevel mods.
SO in the end the "something we don't, in general, want to do" become in player head "it might append each time a big act with new zone levels will happened".
This raise a question in standards player mind, should I spend what I farmed for 1-2 years in a mirrored items if 6 month later it is not the best and I need more dps to survive?
Should I continue to craft mirror-able items, spending millions of exalts in the process if in 6month none will want to mirror it because new mods are out? Why do I need new tier mods on weapons, do I need now to do 10 millions dps in order to survive those new zones?
At this point GGG should be more clear and say: "this will append again probably" and let the players conclude themselves if crafting or buying mirror items are interesting on the long run or not.
Also do a level 90+ toon really need better tier mods to clear zones 10 level under?
This raise the question of balance, what kind of difficulty GGG will put in future higher content (1 shot and high hp vs interesting and challenging AI) and power creeping.
