I dont. When I want a good story I go play Final Fantasy or some other JRPG, or just read a book. In PoE I read only item description and clan chat... and sometimes monster and map mods.

I find that weird. FF has good stories, but has really bad ones. If you are playing FF for the story, PoE can be sometimes be better.

I like to play JRPGs because of the mechanics, not the story, normally. (SMT for example)

To all in this thread: do you skip Dark Souls story too? Why do you skip story in ARPGs?

Because some people just want to smash monsters to bits.

With that reasoning, the passive tree and trading are bad for the game, because the time spent on them is time you don't use to kill things.

I actually never paid attention to the Souls series storyline and it's my favorite game on my PS3 system. Played Demons Souls, DS 1 and DS2 aswell multiple times. Hundreds of hours in each of the game.... these games are the only reason why I wont sell my PS3 console. These games for me are about loot, and killing stuff. Not looking for anything story related.... Same goes for League of Legends , I dont care about champs trivia and background.

DS and LoL are not comparable. DS story is like Metroid (flesh out the world and enemies if you care about it), LoL is more about flavor because it has almost no impact in the game.

Just because the story is not in your face, it doesn't mean that it's not worth paying a little attention.

I still believe it's the quantity gems' fault. Too much white trash caused some critter to go beast mode, and it never stopped.

I enjoy the fact the characters are exiles forced to survive or die. The rest is just politics of derranged mad men. If i want politics, i would turn on the tv.
There comes a time thief when jewels cease to sparkle, gold loses it's luster, throne room becomes a prison, and all that's left is a father's love for his child. - King Osric
Once again, this is not the kind of storytelling I like, but it doesnt mean its bad okay ?
A few examples... I like FF, Tales of games, Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment, The Last of US and this kind of stuff and style of storytelling...

And nothing beats my collection of books of course.

Fair enough. I just was trying to convince you otherwise. It's not like reading PoE lore takes a lot of time (one walthrough paying attention, the Masters and unique flavor text).

It's different, more like playing archeology, rather than watching a movie or reading a book. It's better suited for a game like this.

A lot of the games that you mentioned have the problem that the story is not really that well integrated to the game, it's mostly putting cinematics (except Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment). The story per se can be good, but as narrative techniques are somewhat antiquated. It's like those times when cinema was treated as filmed theater.

The time spent on the passive tree and trading allows you to kill more things later.

If you have time to dedicate to theorycraft, reading a little wouldn't be a nuisance. It's not like the game is story heavy.
