What caused the cataclysm?

Is there cliffs to the lore? I never even read a NPC dialog before. Wouldnt mind knowing what game is about. I just like killing shit mostly tho haha.

The lore of any game (of any variety) will make or break the games I play, so yes. It's one reason I wouldn't touch the other popular ARPG, can't stand the lore.

I'm still up in the air on this story, since we're only 3-4 chapters in out of 10. So far... it's "interesting", but I would rather have a "better" main character to play, but I try to disregard their criminal backgrounds as best as I can and think of them as the "bad twins" of who I'm playing.

That's a very believable explanation. But yet another question pops up, was the Beast in Wraeclast during Atziri's time or was he born when the Vaal sent Virtue gems to Doryani's cradle?

Not reading the lore means you are not expecting future enemies. Atziri, Kaom, Malachai, the Beast...all hinted previously.

Also, it's not your typical "save the world" story. It's mostly about convicted people doing the best in hostile territory.

I dont. When I want a good story I go play Final Fantasy or some other JRPG, or just read a book. In PoE I read only item description and clan chat... and sometimes monster and map mods.

I find that weird. FF has good stories, but has really bad ones. If you are playing FF for the story, PoE can be sometimes be better.

I like to play JRPGs because of the mechanics, not the story, normally. (SMT for example)

To all in this thread: do you skip Dark Souls story too? Why do you skip story in ARPGs?
