It was at a local game shop, ~42 players.

Were the top 3 developers or was someone just insanely good? lol
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
I just got back into playing MTG recently, I played about 7 years ago and i had quite a few good cards. I like how MTG cards have not became too good over time so even though most of my cards were made ages ago, I'm still a worthy opponent.

Cool! I still have all my mtg card from when i started playing when i was a teen . Which is 15-20 years ago :-P

I am happy that i saved all my double lands and old school cards instead of selling them for cheap

God know how many games i played with friends and how many boosters pack i opened.

The joy of finding what cards you got!

I played mtg when tempest and urza series were standard and I bet my (green-white) deck would still beat most of current ones :>
Next blocks were pretty weak (or well tested :D) comparing to those, especially next to urza block which had plenty of banned cards.

MTG cards are not gets better with next block/expansion, they rather tend to change gameplay add some effects or even rewrite rules to some extent to keep ppl interested.
I like that approach by WOC, but I don't like current art, it's too flashy.

I still got the whole ursa saga set :P
"You Cant Tame The Beast"

I kept a 5 colour deck on my home for long years, it had about 90 cards and only basic lands had more than one instance per card, i mean, about 5 plains, 5 forests, 4 mountains, 4 swamps and 4 islands, it hadn't consistency for comboing nor aggroing or even controling.

Then i bought a white kithkin deck of lorwynn set, that showed how much that my 5 colour deck sucks, all times i've tested kithkin deck against it, kithkin deck owned game, all that my 5 colour deck could do is stall game with few enchantments until coming that 5/5 first strike, vigilance with champion kithkin card, then failing to continue stall.

Nowadays i gifted to a cousin my old 5 colour deck, and i also gifted to a nephew my kithkin deck, then i've bought a red/greed warrior deck of mourning tide set, got impressed by found that deck too focused on aggro, even more than aggro/control that kithkin deck was.

I've never participate on magic competitions, i've only played some few pub games, and that's all.
The only CCG I've ever played was Yugioh at least 8 years ago when I was in Middle School, lol.

Always wanted to try Magic but I was never interested enough to really learn the rules and spend money to get started.
Haven't played competitively since Ravnica or so I believe. Was mostly active in T2 back then. My all time favourite deck in that format has to be the Ghost Dad deck from Kamigawa if anyone remembers that. Great synergies there.

Later on our little group stopped playing on tournaments and mostly just met to rock 300 card highlander decks (every card except basic lands only allowed once). You would not believe how much of a metagame can develop in this seemingly random format. Especially in 2 vs 2 matches which used to be prefered.
