Why are so many buils behind a paywall?

Also it's not like every skill is designed to be a primary offensive skill, cold snap has got a cooldown and everything, you need to be creative to beat it.

That's why this build is behind a unique-enabling-wall.
That's what this topic is about .......

I can't use this build, trading people can.

Sure you can, you can use a skill to get you power charges, something like ice spear+gamp+pcoc+chain, should be easy enough to keep charges up, just stack all the crit you can. Just because the unique is the simplest solution doesn't mean it's the only one.
You don't need super-expensive gear to play this game. In my opinion, dying makes the game more fun, and the experience loss is just a side effect urging you to "git gud or git rekt", to quote a popular saying in Global Chat.

Plus, I'm sure other people have thought of more interesting builds out there, but don't want them to go mainstream. We've got plenty of players that know the game mechanics like they're second nature.

The Cold Snap build is about firing Cold Snap unlimited.
Using another skill to generate power charges is a total different build.

I don't share your opinion, I never like dying in Diablo 1 or 2.

solo self found you can do anything, anuhart is playing a low life 6 link shavs crown of eyes physical wander completely solo self found, which says it all. but what I am going to mention here is not talking about grinding 5000 hours for that gear self found, but what is realistically achievable in a reasonable time frame self found. A lot of builds are not possible without that extreme grind self found.

Thing is, what is achievable self found in a shorter time frame is still a wider variety of builds and options than any other arpg in the history of the genre. The fact that so much more exists beyond that, imo is both irrelevant from that view and also a good thing as it gives a reason to grind for 5k hours, which no other game really offers in such a legit fashion. They could 'fix' this 'problem' by removing half the builds from the game, and it would still be the most build diverse arpg out there, but it would be overall a more shit game as a result so why not just keep them? It makes the game better and gives it a life that scales to your time investment, providing you have a realistic outlook and can accept that someone like anuhart can do things you cant because he invested 10x as many hours.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

What it seems like is you just don't like the concept of build enabling unique items. They way GGG decided to make uniques, is to well make them unique, so most of them do something special that no other item does, and sometimes that something special can be built around to do new and creative things, and well if you restrict yourself to playing self found, you need to try and recreate those special things somehow, but you don't want to do that either. There are plenty of ways to gain power charges, but it's probably not as efficient as using romira's for it.

This is something that differs greatly from the experience of playing any of the Diablo games, the unqiue/set items were more directly comparable to rares than they can be in PoE, using an array of skills some of them can be recreated, but some can't.

Combined with the shear number of uniques, it's pretty rare to find any specific unique, even if in a good 2-3 hour play session doing maps or what not, it's not too rare to find a unique. There's a GGG post about the rarity tiers by GGG sort of outlining what type of uniques go in what tiers, but it still comes down to getting any single unique is pretty rare.

Which comes to trading, unless trading is specifically restricted, it will always be better, and give you more options, even if you're just exchanging item A for item B.

So while you want to play self found, which is find, you have to understand that reasonably you're probably not going to find a build enabling unique for the build you want, just by the staggering rarity of any one item.

Sometimes unqiues, skills, and trees come together in cool ways that none of them were individually designed to do, but if it needs a unique to operate and you can't get around it, well it needs a unique, and you're probably going to need to buy it, and there's not really a way around it.

If you really want to play self found, and you really want a specific unique start throwing chances at the base item.

I don't know, I've soloed almost the entire game up to this point and I'm doing extremely well. I'm up to ~5ex in wealth total all gained by myself, through drops. I've soloed everything except for Piety in Normal and Cruel. I haven't killed Dom in Merci but I've soloed Piety (which was sort of a joke) and besides the trading I've done I'm up to 17.2k (tooltip) dps on my Dual Strike/Multistrike/Life leech/Melee splash/Inc Crit dmg dual daggers build. I agree that alot of things in this game fuck you over but it's not impossible to solo the game and even at my low level experience (although I came from Diablo 2) I'm able to solo most 66-69 maps easily. Shadow is pretty fun too and I plan on running at LEAST one Shadow build per league.
Dualstrike + Meleesplash is the same as Arc for me - something I avoid like hell because it's so boring for me.
Also, Static Strike / Cyclone >>> Dualstrike, why gimp yourself with low dps when you can have much more with a different skil + bigger AOE.

I would never touch Ice Shot again after playing a Tornado Shot char, balance is so fucked up in this game that 90% of all possible builds are just inferior to the 1-2 you can use at the same price.

You answered your own question, I find melee builds fun over ranged builds obviously, and dual strike is my favorite build. You seriously just need to find a build that not only works, but is fun. Dual strike accomplishes this.
