Impossible to get RRRGG on a pure evasion armor?
I could have sworn on a solid piece it was a 75% chance to roll a socket of that color. There is some form of priority for it, I forgot what it was someone posted before.
Also, you can't get GGGGG and GGGGG back to back, it will change the color of at least one socket every time. |

" ... The main reason people want items with specific sockets is cause they read about a gem combination and want to use it too, which is bad for build diversity. With those items being rather rare those builds don't get copied that often and people are forced to adapt their passives and gems to the gear that is available for them. Yes, that means an individual player might not have that many possible ways to build his toon but at the same time the variety of builds we see across the whole comunity increases. Not being able to easily get the perfect item also doesn't mean that you can't go for the build you want, you just have to to lower your sights from time to time. If you don't get that 5L RRGGG item you might have to make your build work with a 5L RBGGG item or maybe accept a slightly lower evasion or armor rating. |

yeah ok.
We can only be casters in cloth, rogues in leather and warriors in plate. If you want to stray, you need to pay 20 exalted orbs and 3 hours of roll spamming to get the sockets you want on a piece of armor, which you must wear your entire life due expense/irreplacability. loldiversity. |

" The main reason people want items with specific sockets is because they have a freaking build in mind in the first place. So some people are sheep with no opinion of their own on what to build, so what? Now I have to let the game build my character for me in a random way, instead of following my well thought out intended path? You know what? Why stop at skill gems? Let's randomize the builds further! Let's make it so that every time you level up the passive tree randomly chooses a passive point for you! That will make all kinds of diverse builds, and if you don't like it you can always re-roll it with an orb of regret until the passive tree advances on the path you desire! That will totally make for a fun game. |

" If it is 75% or let's say 80% for simplicity, then p(rrrgg)=0.1³*0.8²*10 =0.64% -> you need 156 orbs. 75% -> 91 orbs Last edited by overpowdered#4125 on Feb 8, 2013, 8:53:00 AM

That's neither what I that nor how the game acutally works. You can play a Witch in heavy armor or a Marauder in cloth, you just won't get the perfect items for that build as easy as you would get them for the items those classes usually use.
In additon, D3 has already shown what happens if items are completely random and not biased towards a certain role: the whole item system goes south. |

" You're still calculating for one given order of the sequence though. RRRGG is equal to RGRGR for all intents and purposes. And besides: The 0.1 should be 0.2 there is an (assumed) equal probability of the socket being red or blue. " Yes so what does this mean? It means that the game battles diversity. If you want diversity you have to spend a lot more time and currency and effort than someone who doesn't. This is supposed to be good? |
