Impossible to get RRRGG on a pure evasion armor?
Hello ^_^,
2 nights ago I purchased a 5-link pure evasion chest. It had GGGGG sockets. Now, I'm not the poorest guy at all, so I decided to make it RRRGG. I've used up 118 chromatics, and did not even get close to what I wanted. It went like this: GGGGG GGGGG GGGGG GGGGG RGGGG GGGGG GGGGG RBGGG GGGGG GGGGG GGGGG GGGGG GGGGG etc. I didn't even successfully make a RRGGG, once. It was a level 48 pure evasion white chest, with itemlevel 61. One fun thing was that I did get a BBGGG once, ironically. Needless to say, I sold that doomed item as I believe it is cursed :O. Is there something I should know about socket colors? Is it impossible to get RRRGG on an evasion chest or something? ~Kaluro www.twitch.tv/kaluroo - lvl 60+ Elemental Ranger Last edited by Kaluro#7876 on Feb 8, 2013, 7:04:35 AM

It is all luck.
Wasted over 100 fusings to get a 6 link. Gave up and settled on a god damn 5 link. |

Item type biases socket colors.
Pure evasion gear gets mostly green sockets, as your example showed. I would expect to see a RRGGG within 100 chromas, and I see a RBGGG you got (which has the same difficulty), but the RNG didn't favor you. |

Well assuming you're using a 5 socket armor to roll.
Then on average (assuming normal statistical distribution) you'd need 3^5 = 3*3*3*3*3 = 243 chromatics to be assured of the combination you want. Now Seeing as how a pure Evasion armor is biased towards Green sockets, you would have to be incredibly lucky or use way more than 243 chromatics. EDIT: Removed my derp. " How do you get the 5^3? He wants 5 sockets with each socket having only a 1/3 chance of being the right color, therefore he needs way more than just 125 chromatics. Maybe I'm too tired (a lot of work last night) but shouldn't he rather need 243 chromatics on average? Last edited by nachtnebel#6825 on Feb 8, 2013, 7:28:42 AM

However you do get lots of combinations you don't care about.
For example RRGGG RGGGR is the same for this purpose. Last edited by overpowdered#4125 on Feb 8, 2013, 7:41:03 AM

" Well yeah. But I don't count "useless" or "similar" combinations, and neither does the chromatic orb. All you are assured of is that you will not get the same combination of colors as you had before. So, any given roll would have 1/(5^3-1) [Adjusted for item bias] of being the combination you need. I haven't worked out the math for similar sockets, I should try that sometime. It sounds like fun. Closed beta member since: March 19, 2012

Socket bias really kills any hope of diversity in the game (After garbage skills and overtuned monster damage set in).
a lightning blood mage in heavy armor? HAHAHAHA NO a ninja with a 2 handed sword who wants to ground slam things in dex armor? LOLNO |

You can't ground slam with a sword.
