Anyone feels the need of A companion while solo? Just out of random

handgelina is always with you
I wouldnt hate the idea of Diablo 2 style mercenaries. Dunno if they would fit in the lore or not though.
I always dream at some point the forsaken masters would provide a unique addition to play style wether in a form of a companion, special skill. They became masters for a reason and I would like to see it in battle.
Bring back Mercenaries like D2 :).

This is not in any way made up or taken out of context, it is in fact a direct quote.

I lol'd - You nailed it!

Heh~~

All poe solo builds require you contribute portion of passive points in surviving and the other portion in dps whether a summoner, a spell or attack or you wont' be able to play high level maps.

I attempted most of popular solo builds and it all dive into 3 types
trapper/miner(which is greatly nerfed atm),
summoner(SRS is the most popular atm but it's more like a spell dps)
Attack/spell

A companion can probably enable some party builds while solo? that's the main reason I want a companion.
A legacy companion master would be cool. This is how I envision it.

Every character you make is linked.

You have a forsaken master who is like the "friends reunited" of PoE. You level him up which allows you access to higher level legacy companions.

You can never use a companion of a higher level than yourself.

Your companion has all the gear and skills you give them however they will only use a basic AI setup so they might not perform exactly how the chqar would if you controlled them. They will just random certain things, apply auras, use pots at percentage of health/mana etc.

When you use a companion the game gets tougher as it would in a regular team game and applies the quality bonus but also gives you the XP nerfs associated with teaming with people who are not within your level range.

Companions cost currency to hire and if they die they cost currency to resurrect.

Companions can only come from parent league types. A hardcore char can only use a companion that is still alive in a hardcore league/race. A softcore can only use one from softcore.

You cannot change equipment on a companion once spawned/paid for. This must be done by loading up the companion character manually. This is to assist the AI script so it is static for when you log in.

You can do that already, just pay another play to accompany you and pay them after they died. Why do people need an AI merc if they can hire an actual person?
In the past I suggested companions and some were pretty opposed to it, much to my surprise, saying it's dumb idea etc. Glad to see more people looking for similar features as I am. It's always good to see receptiveness. D2 mercs can be pretty op but I'm pretty confident GGG can handle the balances.

People are not against them per se, its more like they wouldnt fit POE. Besides, all it does adding mercs to games is make people alienate others and become more of a loner type person as it is.

Not necessarily. It could happen, but it oftentimes doesn't. Think D2, there were still parties. It's just a convenience for when you don't feel like waiting 5 minutes.

Another example, RO1 has mercenaries but they are very rarely used, because there are guilds looking for players or you can easily gather a party by waiting a few minutes.

Long story short, Mercenaries are for those who don't want drop discussions or waiting.

But I agree on them not being fitting. The most reasonable thing would be to take a master with you, but it doesn't make much sense either.
